Reaching the final stages in my first grow. Help me out? [Lots of pics!]

Hey Rollitup'ers! I'm a college student who started her first grow last fall as an experiment of sorts. The plants have been growing beautifully (thanks to advise from you lovely folks) and I'm getting ready to harvest soon. I do not have a magnifying scope to check out the trichomes so...


I figured I would post some pictures of my 4 biggest girls to see if I could get an idea of when to start flushing/harvesting from you guys.

All plants are from BAGSEED and are planted in Black Gold or Fox Farm Soil with a General Hydro 3-part nute system

PLANT : A
Sprouted: October 10th, 2009
Lights switched to 12/12: December 7th, 2009
IDed as female: December 15, 2009

Tallest, but sickest plant (I was out of town for a funeral for a few weeks with nobody here to care for the plants, when I got back things weren't looking too good)

Second largest plant
Sprouted: October 5th, 2009
Lights switched to 12/12: December 7th, 2009
IDed as female: January 7th, 2010

Has been healthy throughout but recently the new leaves which surround the main bud have started to dry up.

Go out and get yourself a cheap magnifying glass and check your trics, in my experience thats the best way. Nice job by the way!

Thanks for the reply! Do you know how much one would cost and were i could pick one up?

If going by the trics, when would i start flushing? Like, 20%amber and 80%cloudy so by the time i harvest the trics are 50/50?

You can pick one up from somewhere like walmart. I bought a big sherlock holmes lookin thing for 10 bucks. As for the tric color, it can all depend on personal preference or even by strain when to start flushing. Your best bet would be to search a thread on here or google that shit. Make sure you post some harvest pics when you're done!
 
Excellent work, they look pretty good. Their color is awfully dark green, which means they've been getting quite a bit of N, but overall, you did a great job for your first grow. Also, if you're lazy like me and don't feel like shopping for a magnifying glass,lol order a cheap microscope off Ebay. They're like $15, and give you a better view than a magnifying glass can. 100X seems to work the best for me, and most mag glasses don't have that kind of magnification.
 
Going in a different direction... You seem to have kept fair records. Count 6-7 wweks from start of flower and start flush-end nute etc. Judging by what I see I'm saying 8-9 weeks flower period. I stop a couple weeks early in soil.

Thank you so much! That's probably what I'll end up doing if I don't get a magnified glass.
 
I've also heard that the bud is reaching it's top potency when 1/2 of the hairs have receded back into the bud? Does anybody know if there's any truth to this?
 
When 50% to 70% of the hairs die. Someone once told me to wait until it gets shaggy. Makes sense when you see it.
