Rdwc question.

I'm going to attempt to build an RDWC system for my next run once my current one is done. I have 2 questions...

1. Is there anything other than uniseals or bulk head fittings i could use for the return lines that might be cheaper than the 5$ ea. Prices I'm finding for 2" on those options? (Could i use just a bushing or pvc coupler and aquarium seal it in the bucket and achieve the same effect?

2. I've scoured and researched how to fight the roots clogging the return pipe problem that's common, I've heard 2"pipe doesn't really have an issue... if i don't use 2"pipe is there another solution? The only one I've seen that seemed to have a shot was a video of a guy with a 2 bucket stacked system. 2 buckets inside each other. The bottom had the return line in it and the bucket resting in it was drilled with 1/2" holes all over it much like swish cheese. The idea was that the roots would have a much tougher time getting through this setup and clogging into the return pipe.

Any thoughts or feedback on this would be awesome!

2" pipes work great, and they are right before prices get steep.

I use 2" rubber couplings to join pvc, where I want to be able to break down the system for cleaning. Few bucks cheaper than 2" unions. Jump over to page 30 of my RDWC/UC grow room thread below to see my setup.
