Rdwc question?

Yea it sounds good that way and much simpler. But the reservoir change will be a bitch or should I have a top off reservoir?
You could/should have some sort of top off, maybe even outside the area for easy access , it would actually make it handy when the plants get bigger and you can't raise the lid easily.

Kool how would you deal with salt build up? And a water chiller would be good too. Right ?

My first experiences with totes weren't that good, I was just posting some of my memories in another thread, c-clamps and duct tape for unexpected leakage during first ever grow!
I like coolers because they're so rigid, insulated and lightproof.

a chiller would be real good, how you'd implement it on the res and a top off res I don't know, I'd just go with a huge cooler, they're actually pretty affordable and you can drop in some ice in a pinch with no chiller.
In a chiller I always recommend a drop in just because I like them so fucking much, no pump to heat water, it's counterproductive. Funny out of the 3 chillers I own only one is drop in, mainly due to price.

What does drop in mean lol and yea I like this idea a lot better. I didnt really want to have to build the rdwc anyways lol but maybe I will invest in a big ass yeti cooler lmao

Yeti? that's overkill and better suited to keep a fuckload of beer chilled to perfection.
Igloo is my brand for hydro.
a drop in has a coil that you drop in the tank you're cooling. There's no pumping water involved.

dont change water for the first 3-4 weeks, then change it every 7-10 days. lift it up (put it on something) and put a little drainer to the bottom.
get another tank, connect it with the one you have on a 1/4" tube, buy a float valve. It will keep your water always topped up.

2 of this (1 for the drain, one for the topup):

+ the pipe

Going forward, if you want to have your water circulated, you can buy a little water pump into the reservoir and a switch into the topup tank. the switch will make sure that the pump stops when the water has reached a level in your topupper tank, than the extra water will just flow down to the main tank. (you need to keep your topup tank on a higher level than your main tank) you can keep that tank anywhere (preferably somewhere cooler)

(if you choose to use the circulation, than buy a T element, and let the water flow through your clay pebbles, to have the top fed, you better to do it anyway, you can use a mini usb water pump too, only for the first 3 weeks until the roots get into the water properly.)

push a lot of air into the water... good pump, big flat airstone.

then you will not have any issue with the water...
o another impotant thing, buy a hydro guard or something to keep your roots nice and tidy.
