That AND I feel like the rockwool really needs to be precharged for a day in a rooting solution. then I hate that you can't really use the damn hole. why do they make that fuckin hole so damn big!
Take bigger cuttings with thicker stems. Gives them a jump on rooting and they only need to soak for 20 min I have tested every time period and it does not make a difference.
Also press the edges of the hole around the stem to make a snug fitting.

What do you do to the water before pouring it over them? Ph it to 6.0 or just straight tap?
Jiffy pellets and rapid rooter plugs really dont need the PH water soak, I hear you though on the rockwool and soaking it in PH'd water. I was always taught to treat rockwool like that before cloning.

Yeah ph it. Don't use tap.
If I ph my tap water to 6,
the next day it's back up to above 9.
bottled water is better.

W/O an established root system, cuttings, technically it should not matter tap or R.O.
If you are charging I would use a constant variable like R.O. to help eliminate trace elements.
Tap works just fine, I like to root using only tap. Sometimes it seems roots have an easier time permeating r.r. vs dense rock wool.
But, If it ain't broke don't fix it.

What is wrong with tap?

Today's standards are high for Tap water... And if your water is doing weird shit like that I would contact the City and have them test water(FREE -City of PHX)

My tap is running 200-300 PPM (mostly magnesium and calcium which plants love)
Chlorine kills micro organisms that plants need so if you allow the tap water to set for 24 hours the chlorine evaporates

And if your water is that bad.. A simple water attachment carbon filter helps alot...

Been running tap for over many years.... Just like everything else with growing - if not used properly it will not work but doesn't mean it is deemed useless...

i just use r/o, but i think tap would do. my friend has run his whole garden on tap water.. he's in week 5 there doing great going over to take pics later(he uses it straight from the hose). I am just worrien not about chlorine but chloramine, but its working over there...

I know for a fact, that tap won't work where I live.
ive tried many times. Bottled water every time.
i highly doubt that's a coincedence.
Trial and error, = success. Hahaha use tap water, whatever.

Tap water hurts my stuff here too.
i use bottled water also. For everything. It's only .25
why not? Buy a bunch of stuff to add to your water just to use it?
C'mon. The dude Is right ^^^ why argue just to argue.?

Been using vitamin C for some time... Eliminates all chloramine. Chlorine is free to remove(let set over night or boil for 20 minutes).

Like any other part of growing if you are not using the product properly it is not going to work properly... I have seen more bad grows from over watering. As a matter of fact, I have never seen a grow go to shit on the account of Tap Water alone... Anyone? Lockup maybe which is usually a PH issue (Tap Water PH 6-7.5 - no lockup).

If you have never trialed and error'd reading is about all that takes plight!

I have had a grow go to shit from tap water alone.
my first grow. Before I knew about ph meters and everything.
All leaves turned yellow from the bottom up and fell off.
total death. Not the nutes. Not overwatering. High ph.
where I live the tap water is at 11. Ph down will help,
but bubbling overnight the ph is back up in the am.
so.....

I have one of those salt water softeners at my house so I cant even think about using tap water.
