Quick question about "Mean Well HLG-600H-42"

Looking at the datasheet. It's a 42 volt. You're using 36v chips. My understanding is the driver would work but it'd overdrive the 36v chips. Hotter sinks and driver temps.

The 600H-36 would match the chips.

I'd get the datasheet for the chips. See what's 100% at the voltage/amps.

If I pick the 36v drive would I be able to run a 20x Series COB build with 0.7A 36V on each COB?

Do you have a model number for the '20x series COB' chip? Or do you mean 20 COBs ran in series?

The chip datasheet will have the graphs and list that show the voltage verses operating % and operating % verses amps. That'll show operating voltage and amps at a given driven percentage.

HLG600h-xx will drive one 3590 in series, and the 36v driver is the best option. You can parallel as many as you want. But only one in series.

16.7amp/20 strings of one= 835ma per chip.

Will I have problems with thermal runaway by running them in parallel?

95% no. Always a chance, but very rare. And with 20 chips cutting up current it's not very stressful on them. Running on the same sink will help chances. But really not an issue.
Plus the 36v driver will cap out at 36v if just running a few or somthing goes wrong...which for a 3590 will top it out at ~75w and basically run in CV instead of a limp mode or blowing other chips.

At maximum. The driver has about 4 more volts then listed. I have a 48v driver and the max it'll put out is 53.3v. The 48v chips are typical at 51.2v(100%). They're currently being driven at 51.5v.
