Hey, you are really over complicating the situation by working to hard. Get a good one for attitude adjustment and move on brother. You must be eating bananas to love them so much. Well you must consult Ytube for a vid called "easy no turn compost bin" then whatever bio degradable refuse you have you can reclaim it a few months later as super compost even without worms. Just keep eating those bananas and put them in the recycle bin to reduce carbon emissions from methane gas building up in land fills. Just chop this stuff up from the bottom of the bin and put in your cheese cloth .

Do you grow indoors too? If so how do you stop Fungus Gnats and other bugs from being brought inside from your compost and worm bins?

I'd mix mosquito bits in with the compost/worm bins and tops dress the bits for your plants.

Ya hey, love the interest in the topic. I live in the grand state of Florida. The summers are warm (90°) and I have an outside storage room made from aluminum. It's like one of those Chinese hot boxes on a summer day. The bin filled up in about four plus months so I just flipped in a low area that's needs fill. Filled a bucket up with the bottom best and set back into the storage for the summer covered up. Took the rest and lined out the bin for the next batch with the leavings from the first. Raked the left overs to fill. When I mixed the soil I went 50/50 with perlite. Then mixed that 50/50 with my recycled soil from the last few grows. Works great and gnats seem to be next to the bananas on top of the fridge. I'm sure it's the sunshine that makes the difference.
