Ok so i'm wondering if I should go, air cooled hood ducted to the filter with a fan directly attached pulling air to the tent wall and out and that is all..or filter fan combo on the top vent with a separate line going from outside on one side ducted through the light with a fan pulling out on the other side..the tent is 4ft 9 by 4ft 9..my concerns are the single set up will not dissipate enough heat since i'm going to use a 1000w hid..but on the other hand i'm worried a second dedicated fan for heat will wind up leaking smell! Also do the filters kill the smell completely outside the tent??

im 600w xxl cool tube in a 4x4x6.5 tent. I have mine separated. I run a 6" 440cfm for the xxl cool tube hood (duct/fan/duct/tent/duct/hood/duct/tent/duct). my scrubber setup is as follows: scrubber inside tent, duct out of tent into an 8" 752 cfm fan (24/7), duct blowing out to my basement (duct/fan/duct/tent/duct/scrubber).

IMO, (because I want to add another fan to my similar setup) you should have a vented hood with a fan drawing air from outside the tent through the light
and exhaust out, there should be a second fan attached to a filter and exhaust out, finally another fan used as an intake to draw in fresh air.

I have an el cheapo filter and there is no smell at all, running 1000w in a 4x4 tent.
The only thing I want to add is a dedicated fan to cool the light using cooler air from outside the tent.

2 - 6" fans
1 - 4" fan

Demon trich how are your temps and do you pull any smell through the light at all? Ricky you are pushing the air instead of pulling it? So right now you are using no fan through your light but want to add one? Why do you have an intake?? Your post was a bit confusing.. Green monkey you didn't answer any of my questions lol but just a heads up since your filter isn't last you can have smell leaks..

Sorry Kermit, I will explain better.

In my 4x4 the setup is as follows.

Carbon Scrubber (Inside Tent)--> 6" fan--> Duct -->Vented Hood --> Duct (To outside tent)
4" intake

It looks similar to this:

So with my experience with this setup I want to add a 6" fan so it will be like this:

6" fan (Outside Tent)--> Duct -->Vented Hood --> Duct (To outside tent) For cooling the light
Carbon Scrubber (Inside Tent)--> 6" fan--> Duct (To outside tent) To reduce smell
4" intake To replace fresh air

This will work better in my case because the ambient temp outside the tent stays cool even
if I am exhausting into the room (basement).

ok here ya go. I have absolutely NO/zero/nada smell in my condo, or basement. the ONLY time I can smell anything is when I open my tent up. I have a separate 6" 440cfm fan that pushes basement air thru the xxxl hood (basement air-duct/fan/duct/tent/duct/hood/duct/tent/duct to basement). my scrubber is as follows (monster DIY scrubber with 200ounces of premium activated charcoal (scrubber inside tent/duct/tent/duct/8" 750cfm fan pulling/duct to basement). I run an 8000btu that ONLY feeds into my flower room with the help of an 8" 420cfm fan (fan runs 24/7), ac only runs 12/12 with light schedule. then I have an 18" fan that blows the hot pocket of air under the hood and above the tops, runs 24/7. 3 5" clip fans inside the tent running 24/7. my lights on temps are 70-73* and lights off are a max of 75*. imo, those are perfect temps. my plants LOVE it. and my humidity is a max of 45% all day, every day. my ambient basement temps are 73* and 42% rh. I exhaust ALL my tent air directly back into the basement. I pull NO outside air in. the basement air is the only air the tents get.

please take a look at my grow journal. the link is in my sig below. everything is fully detailed on my tent setups, adding and removing certain items, and my grow schedule. the beginning is kinda boring, but it spells everything out.

thanks guys..the concensus seems to be use a seperate line for cooling, i guess in the future i will try a single line ahead of time to check temps and if need be i will go with the seperate lines and hopefully i dont have to add any more cooling measures!
