quick breaker question..

20130223_100157.jpgdo u see the red and black wires in the two 20 amp breakers right next to each other?? those red and black wires go to one outlet.. 120v outlet.. why would they wire into two different breakers,:wall: into two different breakers for one plug??
 
Dude never attempt to do wiring yourself, always save that for a PAID PROFESSIONAL, save yourself the headache and the worry of burning your house down. Always let a professional do your electric work!!!
 
it was just a question.. im not messing with that.. my knowledge only extends to wiring 120 plugs and screwing them into the wall.. was just curious as to why the wires from one plug went to two different 20 amp 120 breakers...
 
From what i know which is limited.. Each breaker feeds 120v.... A single pole breaker 120,, dbl pole 220v... Which is what screws me up about pic, cause by that they're feeding 220
 
Yea I unhooked the wire and took the plug down and shut the breaker (s) for it.. very weird. . The plug is definitely a 120 plug though 100% sure of it..it isnt a double breaker either its on two separate skinny 20amps.. it was ran to one plug only.. maybe the previous owner Jerry rigged a 240 freezer.. the panel said "basement freezer", slots 18 and 19 of course. .

wow what shit is this.. the worst part about it is when we bought the house the breaker box had an inspection sticker stating it was good to go.. jesus i could wire it better than that after a week of studying. thanks for the info
 
if that electrical box was in britian it would be condemned and would not be allowed to be used i suggest a rewire of the mains panel before you attempt to grow there is wires jumping from breakers there is rust on the wires some of them wires are older than me imho its not safe to grow with that box
 
I agree.. very odd what they have done... never understood why people just dont do shit right the first time... assholes. Ill have the box rewired thanks all

You want a better WTF story. The jackass that owned my rental house before me built a nice tile surround in the shower. I come to find out after a couple years of owning the place that he attached all the tile to DRYWALL!! Not even greenboard, just ordinary Sheetrock. Needless to say that mold exploded as the wet Sheetrock started to get crumbly.

I had to tear everything out, replace the studs that were also moldy, run an ozone generator and refinish everything.

WTF people. If you don't know, then just ask someone.
 
i cant really tell from the picture, do these wires go to each side of the outlet or do they both go to the same side of the outlet. Also another option is does the black one go to the top screw on the outlet and the red to the bottom or vise versa. it is possible to split the top of the outlet from the bottom outlet. that would mean you have a breaker for the top and one for the bottom outlet. 2 circuits on one outlet at 120 volts each.

this is exactly what i was going to say. I rent so instead of running a 20a 220 breaker to the room (which i did anyway...) I was going to do this.

Hook up a double gang box, one hot to the top, break the connector bridge/tab that connects it to the bottom socket, and run the other hot to it. Then just jump to the other recepticle in the same manner (breaking tab and all)

I was going to make an adapter so I could plug into the top and bottom and recieve 220v, and if I wanted I could use all 4 outlets for 110v.

I was going to do this to "hide" the installed 220v to the plain eye but i ended up just running a proper setup double pole to a 220 outlet.

Please kids, dont try this at home!

So a regular guy with the knowledge could not pull it off you are saying? If it was A business mass producing an adapter then it would be fine? All Im saying is that there are proper ways to do it, and if done right, it works.... Its not very hard.

The same guy built my controller box from scratch along with half of what he uses. You should have more faith in the human race! Things are possible!
