I've gone through a few harvests with cfls, I thought they were fine at first, but now i want to upgrade. Theres a store about an hour and a half from me that sells 400 hps, and im pretty sure for the ballast reflector and bulb its $150-200. is that something that i could just plug into a outlet or what? I also was just wondering if thats a decent deal, and how much power i would be using with an 18 hour day?

the bulb plugs into the light fixture, which plugs into the ballast, which plugs into your standard outlet. around $250 for a switchable would be a good deal, but you might find better deals online. when i ran a 400watt, it upped my bill about 20 bucks.

HTGsupply.com has a great 400W hPS for 130 including S&H. and you just pretty much plug it in and screw in a bulb. and um... oh yea. it says it only will make your electric bill go up 30 bucks if its on 18 or 24 hrs a day I think... they tell you... sommwear

yeah a 400 is kind of outdated. a 600w is more efficient and you can keep it forever so long as you get a digital switchable ballast. they are the shit,. i just ordered two of em
