questions about soil and ferts?

hey guys , i have tryed to research this for a couple of days now and have still not found an answer to my question.

i am currently using foxfarm ocean forest soil. nothing else is mixed in.

so my question is , should i be using any nutrients , or does FF Ocean forrest have enough to last through the whole grow.

i really hate to start a thread over this but i just wanted to clear this up .

i used foxfarm in my last grow and it worked well untill i started adding pure pro blend nutes during the third week of flowering, than the bud growth came to ascreeching halt.

I too am just getting in to this. but I am eagerly reading everything I can find. this is fun.

i am using ocean forest mixed with light warrior perlite and dolomite lime. I read that the ocean forest is too "hot" to use on most seedlings. It has a lot in it.

I bet we will find we dont have to "feed" until the plant gets a third node. Then I bet you can give it teas to be real frugal and topdress with guanos or you can be real cool and get some organci fertilizer and use that every other watering.

I plant to fertilize every other watering and use super plant tonic every other watering.

I, hoever, am in my first soil grow, lol, and 2nd grow ever and I am still reading. I am curious here as well.:)

so start feeding after the third node appears? is this the general consecious ? because i have heard all sorts of different advice.

so when you say feed. should i put worm castings or whatever fertilizer i choose right on top of the soil every other watering? and that should be suffiecient.

i too have been told that mixing light warrior and lime with ocean forrest works well. ..what exactly does that do? .. is it just to dilute the ocean forrest for the seedlings?

FF OF soil is a very good soil. Highly recommended. Mix it with perlite and some dolomite lime to balance the ph, and you can grow some nice bud! Although it's a great soil, it doesn't really have enough nutrients in it for the entire grow. It is good for about the first 3 weeks, and then they will start to need to get fed.

That's interesting about the pure blend pro nutes, did it burn the plants or anything?

If I were you I first would not jump at anything I said. I am just guessing from what I will do and am planning to do;)

that said. In hydro I fed at the third node showing.

I would feed your fertilizer mix with ro water and cal mag at 1/4 the str recmended for early veg on the bottle. Burning plants is the easiest thing to do I have found.

If you only got guanos make sure you got the high N guano and not the high P guano, that is for flower.

I would not top dress ocean forest from what I have read. I would make a teas and feed it.

Worm castings dont have any npk. You should make a tea of that though and feed that every other watering or so.

What do you have. I forgot, I will look:)

but I have read of gorws going all the way in ocean forest. This stuff just helps.

Again I think, expereince i the best here, ohsogreen usually comes on and helps a lot;)

I just read that pure blend pro is not entirely organic, that is a bummer for me. I also have read that their are problems with the directions on pure blend pro that they recomend way to much and that as usual it is less than a 1.4 str that you should sue per plant stage.

I am using bio bizz now as it is certified organic by the omri standards and the uk also.

BMO looks pretty organic and I read lots of good things. I bought theior super plant tonic and it got here in a few days fresh brewed.

I would usually start using nutes when the plant has about 4-6 sets of leaves but on my current grow I have been a very slack and have not used any nutes on them yet but im just about to start because they are about 1 1/2 foot tall and they need them.

What is making teas? i imagine its where you mix fertilizer into a water based solution and water your plants with it.... can you maybe throw me a link . so i can read more about teas?

once again this is only my second grow so im still kinda shakey on all this stuff. i really want to get all the details hammered out befor i germ these seeds.

thanks for all your input.

so you can feed all of these nutrients to a plant that is already growing in foxfarm ocean forrest as soon as week 1 ..?? i have always been told that seedlings dont need nutrients that early. please correct me if im wrong, thats always been my presuption.

and i presume that big bloom, tigerbloom, cha ching and all the other nutes you listed are from foxfarm as well?

Yes you can feed them all of those nutes from Fox Farm following that schedule exactly but I prefer not to feed nutes for the first week or 2.

despite what ya herd, PBP is good and so is foxfarm ocean forest. I have used them out of the bag, to the directions with better results than 99% of the grows here. Use as a base then expand from there.

-seedlings can go 4-6 weeks without feeding. I dont count nodes, they let me know when they are ready.

-teas are good. just dont feed every watering. feed once then wait to see how they react over a 4-7 days.

-fox farm-I have never in 7 years had them burn plants (clones +seedlings)but thats me. I water straight water for a bout the first month when using straight ff. It has good shit in it but can be amended, its a very good base.

Just for the record I have done entire grows with only 3 feedings per directions of PBP in ffof and had great connoisseur results and yields. remember that its a weed!

I have just finished my second grow using Ocean Forest and Light warrior/ Sunshine mix #4. Bear in mind that I am not expert I'll just tell you what I did and hope it helps you.

When I went to restock my soils and nutes for my second grow the hydro shop was out of Light warrior but suggested Sunshine mix #4 to mix with my Ocean Forest in place of the Light warrior.

I started all my seeds / clones in straight Light warrior / Sunshine mix #4 and let them veg for about 2 weeks in 18 ounce solo cups. Feeding them with only water, no nutes yet. Then I would transplant into 8 inch pots with a mixture of about 1/2 to 2/3 Ocean Forest and 1/2 to 1/3 Light warrior. I then let then go for 1 week with straight water. After this first week I started feeding with tea's, using mainly BMO's Super Plant Tonic, High N bat guano, Fish emulsions, worm castings, and Molasses. I mixed my teas a little on the weak side and fed them every watering. I left them in the 8 inch pots for 3 - 4 weeks then upgraded them to 5 gallon pots for the flower room.

In the 5 gal. pots I would fill the first 1/3 - 1/2 of the bucket with straight Ocean forest + a little perlite, worm castings, and either High P bat guano or Bone meal (whichever I had on me at the time) then I would fill the rest of the pot with 1/2 and 1/2 OF and LW and top dress with High N guano.

I started with straight water right after the transplant and started to feed with BMO Flower power, super plant tonic, and molasses. Again I mixed my feed kinda weak and just fed every watering instead of the common feed one watering then skip one watering rotation. I don't know if this hurt or helped or if it made no difference but I was more then happy with my results.

And Don't forget to flush your ladies for the last 1-2 weeks of flower. That chemical taste totally kills my buzz!
