Question On Setup/Lighting

im looking to start my first grow sometime soon (YaY), but i have a few questions, im gonna be going flood and drain, and prob use 2 of the cement mixing trays from home depot there close enough to call them 2x3's gonna be using 2 of them, my questions are how many plants do you think i can efficiently do that will yield a good size crop, i know most answears are gonna say its gonna be based off lighting, which is my next question, say for an area using 2 2x3's which would make it almost a 4x6 area, ive been looking at lighting im not sure if its beneficial to go with say 1 light or run 2 ( say 400 or 600w) lights to spread the light out over the area versus 1 600w, i was also thinking maybe a 1000w light but im also worried about the electrical and not sure how much the lines in that room can handle considering the wiring in the house old and most is still old knob n tube, so my main concern is how many plants i can efficiently get in the 4x6 area ( i know i could put tons of small pots but not yeild much and becomes a pain ) and how much lighting is required to light the area efficiently giving a good yield, also say if i ran eh 15+ plants ne estimates on how much u think i could get, im looking to be able to yield maybe a pound dry, but this is my first grow so i need to get my feet wet first

anyone with ne idea's ?

It depends on what style of growing you want.
With "Sea of green" you could fit as many as you can.
With "Screen of green" you could train your plant(s) to fill a trellis which would require less plants.
Untrained, Id say 4 plants per tub.

Lighting
I like to Veg under floros and Flower under HPS.

Are you planning on building 2 rooms, 1 for Veg(18 hours of light per day), and 1 for Flower(12 hours of light per day)?

well my system is gonna be flood and drain,i will be aiming on having 2 seperate rooms, 1 for veg and 1 for flowering, therefore if times right i can always be rotating when one batch is done in flowering ones from veg are moved ect ect, my main oncern is lighting for the flowering room, im not sure if its beneficial to go with 1 600w hps or use 2 400w's to cover the 4x6 area, my main concernt is the house is kinda old, and not sure if the wiring could handle a 1000w, which i could always re-wire after my 1st grow and slowly build the room i want but money atm is tight, and some idea's on lighting would be great


i found online where a

400w HPS Covers a 4x4 Area
600w HPS Covers a 5x5 Area
1000w HPS Covers a 5x7 Area

im just trying to think on how many plants i could efficiently grow without doing much crowding in a 4x6 area, or i could split the area up into 2 2x3's and run 1 600w HPS on each area, cause i know the more light, equals more yield with less crowing, and on my 2nd grow ill prob go with Co2 but thats something for a later time

that 2x3 tray doesn't have to cover the entire grow area, that is you can grow in a 3x4 using a 2x3, the canopy can be grown wider than the tray below it. you can use 2 600's for best results, but if it's for personal use, a single 600 should be enough if you use it right, and you can use the other with a 250w to veg.

your 2 2x3 trays wont make 4x6 it would take 4 of those trays you could have a 2x6 or a 4x3 ether way i just harvested 1/2 lb out of a half full 2x4 tray with 2 400's hanging over it. i do 8 plants vegged for 2 weeks (on a full tray) i lollypop and top in flower to keep them short (under 2') and i get 2 ounces a plant. if it was me i would run the trays end to end for 2x6 and do 10 plants easily over a lb and for the lights well thats all up to you 2 400's work great for me and i just run regular old hps bulbs (no 100$ grow bulbs) and get great results with them. as long as you get the methods down, which may take a little while, you will be getting good yields.

For those trays you want no more than 6 per tray. I did a grow a while back with 5 girls in one of those trays under one light in a 4'X4" tent. We yeilded about 12 oz. using 1000W HPS and flowering for 9 weeks. I think 4 would have actually been ideal. If you can afford it, dont use anything less than 1000W IMO.

now for 1000w lights do they run off stand 110v or 120v whatever one it is ? cause im just worried about power consumption for the room ill be doing the grow in, house is almost a 100 years old and 3-4 rooms are all connected on the same line, example if someone runs multiple ac's ect it can trip the breaker, i think its an issue i might end up running into if so it wouldnt be a huge issue cause the room does need to be ripped down and re sheet rocked could always do new wiring if needed then have my cousin whose an electrician hook the wiring up to the main

Yes yes definately go the long route when it comes to your wiring...
Consider your electrical wiring like a foundation you want to build your home on. You would never build your home on a weak foundation and risk losing everything simply due to poor planning from the start. Wiring is the bottom layer of your whole op. if you ever want to change it after you get started you basically have to rip up your whole op to do it. Bite the bullet and invest in the proper equipment from the beginning. Then hire a professional to install it. All it takes is a single improperly wired connection to start a fire. This especially applies to old dwellings. Do not cut corners on your electrical and risk burning your life down for the sake of a few plants.
