Question on lighting for 6x6 tent

I have a 78x78 mylar tent on the way, and a friend is going to donate me his 1000w hps/ballast. From what I'm reading, the lamp won't be enough to cover that much area for 12 plants. So now I'm stuck, I definitely want to use the 1000w'er so should I just place that in the center and grab some other lights? Suggestions?

He also has some extra CFL's and I have some t5's for vegging.

Try maybe 9-10 plants? A 1000w will give you a 5x5 growth area underneath with minimal results at the 6' ranges. No doubt others will have contrasting opinions on this, but I would much rather grow 10 top notch plants as opposed to 8 top notch and 4 mediocre ones right?

He does have a point. Also you might be surprised that you more than likely will not lose any weight over-all. I knew a friend who did a test under a 600 using 4 plants in a 3x3 area... then went to 3 plants and then down to two plants .. he ended up yielding the same amount within 10 or so grams each time. it all has to do with how well your light is able to hit the plants your growing. or you could just get a light mover :)
