Question on Harvest Timing???

So, I've read a lot about harvest times and what to do the last two weeks before harvest, etc. Problem is this is a first grow for me. Obviously, with experience comes a basic of understanding when to do what. Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury the first time around so all I can do is ask questions.

I've read you're looking for a 50/50 ratio of red/brown hairs to white hairs. I've also read you have to go by the trichome color etc. I would say based on my reading they probably go pretty closely together.

I've started seeing a few brown hairs on my buds now. No where close to the 50/50 ratio, but I'm curious how quickly they start changing? I'm growing White Widow and I just finished my 8th week of flowering. I just want to make sure I allow myself enough time to flush, etc. before harvesting. I'm just curious on average once you see the first few hairs change how quickly the others usually follow.

try this for you first harvest.

at 25% red havest a few good branches
at 50% red harvest a few more
at 75% red harvest the rest.

that way you can see the type of buzz you like.

if you have more then 1 plant try apple jusic in one to see if you like it.

That's a good idea and good information.
However, I would still like to know if anyone has information in regards to times. General rough estimate in getting from the first few red hairs 25% to 50% to 75%.

Im too in about my 8th week close to flowering cause bottom leaves are turning yellow and falling off.. So Ill keep an eye on this thread to know when would be the optimum time to harvest my plant??the hairs on it are still mostly white so I know theres a while left and I have a 30x magna to check out the trichomes to see when they start turning amber in color

i prefer to let them get more amber and let them pack on some more weight until they are fully ready to harvest

but you could miss the optimum point of harvesting if you let them get too amber.. and the green will give you that lethargic high(aslo known as couch lock), instead of the more up high. And It could also lose potency if you miss the best time for harvest

i dont think its gona lose much of its potency unless it finishes off dies and starts to dry on its
the tricombs might fall of very crystallized part of the bud

but i dont think your gona miss its optimum harvest time just harvest when you think its ready

I've been flowering under 400 Watt HPS for about about 36 days. Seeds from Nirvana "snow white"
I don't seem to be getting any of the red hairs that customarily show up when you are getting close to harvest. Some trics appear to be getting cloudy (@60X) but I also don't seem to have as many trics as I have had with other strains in the past. Is this characteristic of Snow White? I've never grown it before.

Any input is appreciated.

9 to 11 weeks of flower for harvest is a good guess. but each stain and grow conditions will have an effect.

So this bagseed is about 50+ days of its life unknown strain.. how long could I have to go till harvest?

are you flushing at this point

Alot of the plants I saw in this thread are not ready for harvest. I wait until the pistils recede back into the bud and then dry carefully. Just my opinion

Do not harvest according to pistil color or size of condition or by the rough estimates for flowering period time.

Harvest only according to the color of the trichomes and then harvest when the trichome color will give you the high or stone or combination of both you most desire.

Harvest according to your likes and wishes and not by others likes and wishes and by all means totally ignore any and all opinion. As Sergeant Friday said, "The facts, ma'am, just the facts."

The same applies to drying and curing.


Trichomes

Trichomes are small appendages that look like hairs. They are produced by marijuana, and other plants. Female marijuana plants produce certain trichomes that are a rich source of THC. These trichomes can be found in their largest concentration on the buds. They start out clear, turn a milky color, then turn amber (light brown).

The trichomes in picture 1 are clear. After the plant has flowered for a few weeks, the trichomes start to turn a milky color (picture 2). After a few more weeks, they will be totally milky in color. In the later stages of flowering, trichomes will turn to a light brown color (picture 3). The amount of time required to get to this point depends on the marijuana strain and the growing conditions.

In picture 2 you can see the stems have started to turn from a clear color to a milky translucent color. For maximum THC content and a more cerebral and energetic high, harvest your plants when a majority of the trichomes on the plants in your garden are a fully milky translucent color.

You can wait until most of the trichomes have started to turn amber, but the resulting marijuana will produce more of a sleepy body stone than it would if plants were harvested earlier. The trichome in picture 3 is about 90% amber, with just a trace of the milky translucent color it previously possessed.

iam near the end of 7 weeks my trics are about 40% milky on the top bud all i have is a 30 x mag. what do i do next.

A 30X mag scope is a bit weak in my opinion but if you can tell what color the trichs actually are then I guess you can stick with it.

You can buy one from Radio Shack that is a 60 – 100x scope for only $12.09 if you want to upgrade to something more powerful. (unless Radio Shack changed their shipping policy any online order over $12.00 gives you free shipping. If they changed the policy then you would of course have to add the price of shipping)
　
You will likely get differing opinions but you can watch the trich color closely and if, as is normal in many grows, the top of the plant reaches a trich color you most desire and the trichs on the lower portion are still clear you can harvest the top portion and allow the rest to mature more.
　
Some claim that will stress the plant greatly and some say it will cause little to no stress. I have never harvested that way so I do not have any personal experience to share and at best can only pass on the beliefs of others.
　
You other option is to allow the upper portion to turn at least slightly amber, or more if you prefer a couch-lock body stone, and in doing so give the trichs on the lower portion of the plant time to hopefully turn milky.
　
One thing to consider when picking an option is just how much actual decent bud production does the lower portion of your plant have? In many cases people growing with lower wattage lights or insufficient lighting the lower portion of the plant(s) will produce so little, in some cases mainly popcorn, and in that case your main concern should be to harvest the part of the plant with the best bud production when its trich color is what you most desire and worry little or not at all about the rest.
　
If you have good bud production from top to bottom either hope for more information that someone may offer best fits your situation or flip a coin as to what to do.

that was realy helpfull. i started with a 250 watt 3 week into 12\12\ i added a 400 watt some one said trim all big fan leaves bad bad i will probly will chop the top first. should i only give water and mollasses till i see amber. this is medical for m.d. thanks.
