Question on Bluelab PPM/EC Truncheon

This just arrived today.

First thing I wanted to do with it was test the water coming out of my recently purchased RO filter to make sure it's doing its job (the water pressure is lower than ideal).

When I test it in city water, I get a PPM of between 100 and 200, which falls in the range outlined in city reports on water quality.

When I bought this, it never occurred to me that its PPM range is between 100 and 1800. When I put the truncheon in RO water, nothing happens. No lights come on. Does this mean the PPM is below 100, in which case I assume the RO is doing its job.

Thanks!

I contacted BlueLab directly and they were able to confirm for me that the reason the Truncheon isn't turning on is because the PPM of the RO water is below the device's minimum range of 100 ppm. It sucks that it isn't lower, though. Clearly my RO filter is working, but to what extent is difficult to determine with this meter.

For posterity, here is BlueLab's reply to my query, which was answered in less than 2 hours (great customer service!)

Hello XXXX

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

You are correct, RO water often does not contain enough nutrients to measure using our equipment. This is a good place to start as when you then start to add nutrients to the water the reading is calculating the actual number of nutrients and you do no have to allow for any additional nutrients found in the (tap) water.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Thanks xxxx,

Regards
