Question/Help - Starting in 4" rock wool cubes

I expect my clones to root within a week, but it looks like I will have 2-3 additional weeks before my flowering room is ready. Therefore, I'm planning to leave my clones in teh 4" rock wool cubes to veg for about 2 weeks in the cloning trays. But I haven't a clue about growing in rock wool. Please help, as I need a little guidance. I'm planning to hand-water, but am hoping that I can simply poor a given amount of water/nutrient solution into the tray every 3 or 4 days and let the cubes draw the water up...will letting water sit in the bottom of the tray keep the rock wool too moist? How much water should I put in and should I let the cubes dry out some before watering? Is a PH solution of about 5.5 about right...I don't have a prong PH tester so I won't be able to check with PH within the cube.

Thanks.

i always start my clones in 4x4 r/w & leave in clone cabinet until grow is done & can put clones in growroom i use gh-flora nutes seedling schedule .mix 1 gal. at a time i then take a turkey baster [big eye dropper] & saturate my blocks 1 time a week by the time they go in my room they have roots out bottom & are then placed on 3'' rockwool slabs for remainder of grow i hope the pics come across to give you an idea of how i did it but nonetheless you got the right idea just use mild nute solution & remember r/w holds moisture a long time so dont over do it:leaf:

Great info...I have no experience with rock wool and thus wasn't sure how moist to keep them. So if I understand correctly, letting them stand in 1/8" of water in a tray would keep them too moist?

I was planning/hoping to veg them to about twice the size of those in the 4" cubes above...will 4" cubes allow for that without getting too root bound?

Also, at what point do you start the nutes...once the 1" cubes show roots andyou transplant to the 4" cubes?

Thanks!

A good way to test if rock wool needs watering is to pick up the cubes. If they are light, they can probably use a watering. If they are heavy and/or water runs out of them when you pick them up, don't water. It's really best to let rock wool dry out good before watering again. When I first put clones into 4" cubes, they only need water every few days. After they show roots at the bottom of the cube, they'll start using a lot more water, so I water them every other day.
