Question for Latuya (or anyone)

I have used MG Moisture Control for 3 years..but I mix 1 part MG, 1 part peat moss and 1 part pearlite. After I transplant to 3 gallon and change to 12/12 I also use Shultz 10-15-10 liquid fertilizer every other watering. Never had a problem with burning. I average about 1.5 oz per plant. Just my experience.....
Can you tell me what size pots you use initially, before switching to 12/12? I just nurtured three plants in 3-gallon pots to 15" height, and had 2 males and 1 female (first grow ... only got 1 female in the end from 5 white widow seeds). Next time I want to use smaller pots and still get to 15" height before 12/12 so I can grow more plants and toss out all the males based on preflowers, without wasting all the precious light space and soil needed for the larger pots.

Is a 1 gallon pot enough for this if growing in soil (or a soiless mix, no hydro)? I got to 15" height in 29 days from first sprouting, and the roots in the 3 gallon pots were already starting to circle at the bottom of the pots in the males I killed. But it sure would be easier to use the smaller pots until the preflowers appear, then transplant the females to larger pots at the same time 12/12 is initiated (which it sounds like you are doing).

this grow is at day 35 with the tallest about 10" statred 12/12 last night to pre sex. after presex males will leave. all the girls will go into 5 gal pots. these went from jiffy cups to 2 and 3 gal pots I'll let you know how this works

Do you have any pics of your plants at 35 days? I looked around for "jiffy cups" and the largest ones I saw were only about 4" diameter and 4" deep. Or are there larger ones? Sounds like you are doing two transplants rather than one (jiffy to 2-3 gal, then to 5 gal). Right?

If this is necessary then I suppose there is no way to do just one transplant after the preflowers are identified unless I start with at least 1 -2 gal pots so I can for sure get to the preflowering stage before transplanting (or getting root bound). But my first grow plants were 24" wide at 15" tall and so there was no way to get them good light under a single 400W MH/HPS reflector without raising it too high off the tops of the plants.

I'm wondering if using an 8-bank, 4', T5 assembly that nearly covers the entire footprint of my 4' x 4' grow tent might not be a better option for vegging more plants up to preflower than trying to use a single 400W MH (with air-cooled reflector) as I'm doing now. This would provide much better area coverage and produce 40,000 lumens (5K per bulb), which is about the same as spec'd for the 400W MH bulb.

I will try to get pic's tomorrow when the lights are back on. Next grow I'm going to sart seeds in 3 gal pot's under cfl's grow to about 8" sex transpant girls to 5 gal and go to mh light. flowering at 24".
You are right about one light my little area is cramed with 18 plant atm. some are not gettimg enough light. but this is all bag seed and kind of a first run with this setup. hope to get all the kinks worked out for the next grow. the next will be much smaller and with a much better seed.
the 8-bank sounds like a good idea what size pot will you start with? or how many plants?

With a 4' x 4' tent I don't see how I can grow more than 4 plants to size without their leaves overlapping since even at 15" tall the overall width was 24" for my white widows. Maybe it is OK to have the lower leaves overlap and cram more plants in, but I'm only growing for myself so 4 females is plenty. I only got 1 female from 5 seeds this time, but if the norm is 50/50 I'll probably start with 16 seeds and hope at least 12 germinate and sprout. I can fit 12 1-gal pots under the 8-banker and then hope for at least 4 females for the final transplant. I'm using 3 gallon pots now which is supposed to be good for 3 months (started flowering at 29 days old, so should be done in about 3 months I hope).
