question about temps

im growing in a tent about 2x2x5 i have 3 105w cfl in there at about 3 inches off the plant. the plant seems to be doing just fine but im having a hard time keeping the temperature down. near the plant its getting almost 90 degrees but in the tent itself near the top its only 80. i have a fan for intake(at the bottom) and exhaust(top) and one fan oscillating on the plant my question is are my temps too high? is 90 degrees risking stunting the plant or otherwise harm it? like i said the plant itself doesn't seem to mind being that close to the lights no signs of burning and there is still constant growth. is there anything i could do to better control the temperature inside the tent? oh i also made one of the diy co2 generators with yeast and i think i read that the plants like it a little hotter when they have more co2 to work with how much hotter?

Do you really need the tent? Seems like every grower I hear of starting with a tent ends up taking it down and just using the frame.

i'm using the tent because i don't have a closet or spare room available unfortunately. the lights were about 4 inches away and it was about 90 degrees at the plant . i was getting worried it was too hot so i just moved them about 2 feet away and the temps are down to 80~ degrees. whats the highest temperature the plant will tolerate with the added co2? im sure every plant is different but generally whats a safe temp? im growing arjan's haze #3, mostly a sativa strain, if that helps at all. thanks for the advice so far

My question about the tent is who is going to go in the room where the tent is that you don't want to know? Can someone really see the tent and not wonder? I wouldn't let anyone in the room where I had a grow tent which means I could not use the tent. If light through windows is theproblem, cover windows with blackout fabric you can get at a fabric store.

But its nice to hear someone say there not ample to grow.....
I grow in my bedroom ...
since i live in a guest house....
So its hard to keep the darkness for 12hrs.... but i manage.... i always keep my window open....
and just use regular fans....
sucks tho cause i cant turn on the light after dark..... but i still watch the tele....
I just put a curtain in front f my closet....
Damn i could use some doors...

When useing cfl's always double up with a warm spec daylight to a cool spec daylight. This will give the plants the heat that is needed to bring plants along.

its in a room where no one will see it, out of the way. the window in the room is blacked out not getting any extra heat from it. ill try and take some pics in a little bit and post them of the exhaust and everything as it is now. the lights are approx 2 feet away now with 81-84 degrees on the plant. top of the tent/outside room is about 80~ i have two little vortex fans blowing in for exhaust/intake. using two 65K Spirals and one 50K tube type cfl for lighting right now all three 105 watts.

hmmm, that doesnt sound right, why would the plants need more heat to grow? his temps are 75-80f, and even though heat is part of the color spectrum i really doubt a 2700k cfl will put out more heat than a 6500k, its visible light it puts out mostly, not infrared. i agree on your advice though but the reasoning you gave for it seems kinda off to me. the reason you want to use a mixed spectrum is because the sun puts out red and blue spectrums at all times, just more blue than red in spring/summmer and more red than blue in late summer/fall.:peace::joint::peace:
if im mistaken about all this could you show me some info that proves it please?bongsmilie

i posted some new pics in my grow journal, was having problems getting them to be thumbnails and pretty so i just made them imageshack links. if someone could wander over and check out those pics give me any advice on how much ventalation i need or if i have enough and if i should be able to keep those lights at 4 inches why am i having such a problem. the tent is usually closed to keep in as much light as possible. temps are finally staying around 81-84.

DC, with that fancy store bought tent you have a lot of options. That exhaust set up is not very efficient but, that's not the problem. The heat should rise and you say that temps are pretty close to room at the top of the box. It looks like you are in finished living space, can you lower the room temps? This will make the intake cooler, I am running about 100W of t5 in a 2x2x4 and have an assed together intake like you. Don't be offended. My room temp is about 71 and the temps inside run around 77 at container level. Have you tried moving the intake right on top of that opening and get more room air in and point the inside fan at the light some? That's working with what you have. If you are willing to part with some cash, shut the flap and use the factory intake with a centrifugal fan as designed. In the end I suspect that you will want another one at the top when the stink starts to run a scrubber and improve exhaust but, you can get to that when the time comes. Just my experience, take it for what it's worth. I would try the free stuff first and see what happens, my budget is pretty tight.
