Question about hydroton

I clone in an aeroponic cloner, so my roots are just dangling there when it's time to transplant, can I put my plants straight into hydroton from there? Or will they need something like rockwool to support them? I'm going with ebb n flow or top feed drip to start with, so any advice on transplanting from aero to hydroton would be appreciated

hydroton is perfect and actually imo better to use in your situation. if you transplant from aero to rockwool I don't see how you will not damage roots when you force the clone+roots into a rockwool cube. unecessary transplant shock. hydroton is the ultimate media.

I start off seedlings and clones in oasis cubes and transfer to hydroton.. been using this method w/ wonderful results for many many years......

They will be fine, just use the hydroton like soil, --I pour nutrient solution over the hydroton after I put the clones in,

Flood the tray and place the clones into the hydroton while its stays flooded, you won`t risk damage to the roots so much

I use Grodon plugs. I clone in neoprene discs and then move to plugs which I put into larger RW blocks. If you put them straight into the hydroton you may need some extra support if you are going with any height. Lollipop seems like it would work without support, maybe.

Those plugs that open from the split on the side look like something worth looking into, I think I'll try to use just hydroton but lollipop and possibly scrig it for some support when the buds get massive, thanks for all the replies

Good luck. The plugs also help to steady the new clone and it is easier to handle or move while in the plug.

I cut a rapid rooter in half, wrap it around the base of the stem/roots, and then bury it in hydroton.

I also presoak a bunch of RR's in the nutrient solution first (separate container obviously)

The idea about flooding the table first and placing the rooted clone directly in hydroton is a good idea as well.

you dont need any of that shit.
Just yank em out, fill your pot about halfway, nestle the roots in, and fill the rest of the way. It will take a few days for your plants to get over it, but they'll be just fine.
I hate rockwool, its always too wet or not wet enough, such a unecesary hassle.

Works pretty darn well for me.

I do what SpruceZeus does. I use 8" pots and put a dowel rod in there that I can tie them to for support, if needed.

hydroton is the truth brotha! I like to have my flood on while i,m doing transplant to take the weight off the roots and to give them a nice drink to relive some shock. So if you are f and d like i am and fairly inexperianced like i am then i would stick with expanded clay and transplant while flood is on. its pretty easy. They'll all live.
