You don't necessarily need to be friends with the breeder. I won the chance in a contest. There are 20 testers in all for the Qush.

I think it is really great that Subcool offers testing opportunities of his new breeds. At no cost to the tester. He just wants feedback and information on the genetics.

All breeders should offer similar opportunities to the public.

I got the Qush by entering a contest. There are 20 Qush testers in all.

Okay, for veg, I am old school, I use High Output T12 fluorescent lights, 8' bulbs, 110 watts each, 9,200 lumen each. Unfortunately these extraordinary bulbs that offer 9,200 lumen, they are going to stop manufacturing them in July 2012. They are SP and SPX, for example SPX61, they have a very similar light spectrum as MH. Cool white HO are just fine also, which will still be available. The difference with the cool white is that the lumen is only 8,700 or so with a different spectrum. The T12 HO is overlooked by most growers in my opinion.

As for flower, I have (2) 1000 W HPS in a custom closet.

With the fixture you will need to do some customizing. It does not come with a reflector. In my case, I just slipped a strip of mylar between the bulbs and fixture.
I have three of these light fixtures side by side about 5 or so inches between each fixture. I was able to use one piece of mylar weaved between the bulbs and fixtures and then stapled to the framework I have holding up the fixtures. This kind of gives the effect of the ceiling of the veg area being one reflector. I am sure there are better ways to do this, but it was a quick fix to get it to reflect evenly. Just a thin sheet of cardboard painted flat white slipped under all of the bulbs would probably work fine too.

The spx bulbs can get to be very expensive, like $70 each and at some places you have to purchase a case of 15! The sp bulbs are probably the best deal, those are 9,200 lumen, and the cost is about $29 each, still you have to purchase a case of 15. I have used the cool white HO lamps and they work great too.

In my opinion the 8 foot lamps are the way to go. Much more efficient than the 4 or 6 foot.

I have not tried all of the different bulbs they offer for T12 HO. The SP and SPX are not like your typical fluorescents. I believe the government has banned them, not sure though. If so, I have no idea why because they are quite efficient. Maybe because of the chemicals inside or my best guess is that they put out UV rays. These lights are meant for shops, warehouses, offices, places where public may be. I really do not know. I sure wish I had the extra funds. I would be stocking up on all different spectrums. Worry not, the cool whites work great and are the least expensive. Just have to be sure to get the 110 Watt lamps, not the 95 watt ones.

The T12 HO 8 foot bulbs are my favorite fluorescents.

Hope this info helps. I am not claiming that they are better than MH for veg. I just think they are best fluorescents. The fixture can easily be mounted in a flower area for additional lighting should the need arise. You can even mount them on a wall to add light to the lower parts of the plants.

i just made a hood for my cfl, so the seedlings can get more light hopefully.you can't see the labels on the seedling because i just turned the pots so they will lean the other way towards the light.C99 in front, Qleaner in back

alright, here's there final setup until flowering.
Querkle, and JTR are in the tent which is now in my closet.
Cinderella99, and Qleaner are in the small closet i started my autos in.
i'll probably start flowering the two in the tent when the JTR is the size the Querkle is now. i just need a cool tube first.

i think the querkle might be a male. there are tiny balls on the nodes, im hoping pistils will grow out of them.

i got a pretty interesting jack the ripper pheno, i hope it's not a male.
at first it was short with a thick stem, now it's taller then the other two and kinda lanky but still thick stem.






see how much taller it is then the c99 behind it? the c99 sprouted first to.
i've heard there are a lot of different phenos of jtr, has anyone grown this one?
