Purple Jones grow journal

Gonna do an experiment with a t5 setup, got 2 purple Jones clones (purple urkle x Casey Jones) and got them in 2 5 gallon smart pots with happy frog soil under a 200 watt 8 bulb 2 foot HO t5 with a supplemental 24 watt HO t5 dangling on the side in a 3x3x5 tent. Total output of 18,400 lumens I believe. Got 4 red bulbs for the switch to flower when the time comes. Just using some cal mag and haven't started actual nutrients yet but plan on doing so on the next watering in a day or so. Not gonna top these girls, the grower I got them from recommended topping but I think I'd do better just bending that top down, it has nice side branching already and I don't want to slow them down at all. Here's some pics, any comments or suggestions are 100% welcome, I'll be updating this regularly.

Yeah I haven't seen it in a while, used to see it at shops in Colorado Springs back when I first got my medical card...magical times lol. I've never grown either purple urkle or Casey Jones, so any input on either one of those strains from anyone is greatly appreciated! It seems to want to bush out instead of grow vertically after I topped it but I'm not ignorant to the fact that may very well change when I flip to 12/12 :eyesmoke: the plan is to veg them to about 18 inches tall and flip at that point, my tent is only 5 feet tall but I'm using t5s so they can get closer...I might need to look into daisy chaining some t5s for some side lighting though if the Casey comes out and they get tall like you predictbongsmilie

The only issue I'm battling at this point is the purpling of the stems and petioles on the fan leaves...I'm gonna up the dose of cal mag, temperatures are around 76 during the day and 70 at night so it shouldn't be an issue with cold....maybe genetics but something tells me it's hungry for cal mag...thoughts?

It's been getting about 200ppm of cal mag and a meager 20ppm of nutrients to start...I figure the happy frog soil has some goodness in it and it's better to slowly dump them in until it asks for more...I'm thinking of doing 300ppm of cal mag this next watering tomorrow, I didn't feed today like I said I would lol, and not doing any grow nutes until the following watering which I plan on upping the dose to 200ppm cal mag and 150ppm grow nutes...at the rate she's drinking, if I water tomorrow with just cal mag, her next feeding should be about 6-7 days out. Am I being too conservative? I don't want to overload on nutrients, it's a bit of a paranoia I have lol

I've never grown pure urkle but know a few who have it's a notorious slow finisher but high quality & the grape comes out in many crosses Casey jones was kinda slow as well but quality is high & if my memory is correct it's trainwreck x Thai not positive though you should end up with top grade product

the purpling is probably genetics my candyland which has urkle in it does that as well & it don't go away just remember most cal mag has nitrogen in it as well this is my candyland IMG_4922.JPG

Great looking plant man. And all very good info as well, I'm looking forward to this harvest, estimated to be around the middle of May, possibly June.

Had to tie them down a second time, the 2 tops on each popped up really fast and just wanted to go up again...I sense these two want to be tall girls. Gonna leave them alone, 3 hours til lights out, will check on them sometime tomorrow...not much more input needed from me, I'm pretty sure they want me to go away lol
