Medina Attorney Faces Pot Charges

MEDINA, (NY) — An attorney from the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office was arrested Friday after police broke up a marijuana-growing operation at his residence. Adam P. Rissew, 36, of 305 Catherine St., Medina was charged following an eight-month-long investigation by the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force and village of Medina Police Department. Authorities who searched Rissew’s residence seized more than 60 marijuana plants and an estimated three pounds of dried marijuana. Police also seized an illegal, and unregistered, loaded Glock 9mm handgun, indoor growing equipment, scales, packaging and other drug paraphernalia, the task force announced in a news release. Rissew was charged with one count each of second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, unlawfully growing pot and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was also charged with two counts of unlawfully dealing with a child, the task force stated.
Rissew was arraigned in Shelby Town Court in front of Judge Dawn Keppler. The defendant was committed to jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. Rissew is slated to appear at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Ridgeway Town Court. The most serious charge he faces is second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a Class D felony. The investigation into the sale, distribution and growing of marijuana in Medina is continuing. Further arrests are expected, according to the task force.

Picture is from wherever they keep your picture when you go against the Empire.

Notice how they almost look like us, but if you look into the eyes you can see the programming that has been done. Sorry Andrew but you chose. I just hope for you that they don't make an example out of you like they do to people.

Why are you giving a public defender so much grief? People like him work for us, defending the indigent against DAs that prosecute marijuana grows. They make very little money doing a thankless job protecting the rights of the accused.

i do feel for him but in all reality 90% of the public pretenders are greedy phucks who make backroom deals to get the prosecutors stats up and make themselves look good.

The public defenders make deals because they're completely overloaded with cases. I know a few people who are working in public defender's offices and they do so to help people. The pay sucks, the hours are long, and even your clients hate you and don't appreciate the sacrifices you've made to be there.

Of course there are some public defenders who are there because they cannot get work elsewhere. But the people I know are there to help.

That is not true in my experience! They overload these good people and most are mind you (the few greedy fucks who wanted to be partner at a Corp Law Firm defending Corp Crooks but failed do not count!) very good hard working folks not allowed even to work overtime- get the last appointment of the day if you doubt- they turn the god damn lights in the office off! My last one was a very tall woman carrying stacks of thin folders all representing different poor ass fuck clients Over Her Head every day!

dont get me wrong maybe im misrepresenting the ratio not all public defenders are bad but i spent 2 years locked up as akid because of one not giving a fuck about me pretty much threw the case no advice, no help, nothing. sorry cant say i really feel bad for anyone who partakes in the corruption whether indirectly or directly we are all knowledgeable of it and simply should not join in. our justice sytem is fucked and tweaked from what it once was and it needs to be reorganized from a corporation back into a justice system.

It is truly sad, I agree... I stand up for my PD's because they did their best with a fucked up situation in a country where we preach equal justice for all, rich or poor. That's all BS anyone who's been in the System knows that - and unshakable truth to anyone who hasn't been. :wall:

How is defending poor people who would otherwise face much stiffer sentences "partaking in the corruption"?

same way as being an american and supporting our government with our tax dollars. we are all aware of our countries "evils" (because like most things what is considered evil or not is a matter of opinion) the government cant be the only people we blame we have to blame ourselves for supporting them or giving them the power to do corrupt things. if the american people where responsible for themselves this would be non issue. instead we the american people have delegated our rights over to the government, by choice, and what this means is whatever the government chooses to do we are responsible for because we are a part of that system and support, once again whether indirectly or directly involved with its function we hold the responsibility.

in essence they support the sytem by being a part of the system. do you think if ALL the lawyer refused to go to court till a reform took place the country would continue to prosecute? in short yes, the country would continue to prosecute but this would ANGER a lot of people since the lawyers refuse to defend and people could and would receive unfair treatment. this would be the simplest cure to our justice systems ailment.

to simply to stop partaking in it, because to continue to do so puts the blame as much on you for that reason as anyone else involved.

ok so you should know by now you cant believe everything you hear and just because they found kids stuff in the house doesn't mean his kids live there or knew about anything going on. I am pretty sure that charge will be dropped since you don't read about it in any other news except the first one that was published when it first happened. so don't judge on what you read all the time they like to dramatize everything and exaggerate. But if it was another care where the kids lived there full time and knew what was going on then i would def think charge is appropriate but because this isnt the case here its going away

As you said, yes this would happen, but what would the result be? A fascist police state where the government throws away everyone for life at a whim without any evidence of a real crime. It's not a world I'd like to live in. I have a lot of respect for all the defense attorneys who are in the field for the right reasons. My release date would be 2020+ if it weren't for mine. I'm sure glad he was there for me.
