Could mushrooms have been the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil mentioned in Genesis in the Bible or perhaps Soma mentioned in the 9th mandala of the Rigveda?
I've often thought it fun to ponder the possibility that we gained our "consciousness" after eating magic mushrooms. Maybe up until that point we were only as self aware as chimps and the experience allowed us to view ourselves from outside of ourselves and gain empathy and theory of mind. I know the key to our "consciousness", whether real or illusion, lies in the 1 or 2% difference between our DNA and the DNA of chimps, but let's toy with the possibility and see where it leads us.
Many mushroom users report feeling an almost telepathic connection with others while they are under the influence.
