Psilocybe Cubensis: Golden Teacher Grow Log

So, yesterday my Golden Teacher spores finally came in the mail! I had ordered from sporebank and was excited to know that I would be getting another whole syringe for free. Not only that, but either San Pedro cactus seeds or Blue Afghani Opium Poppy seeds came for free too. I was a little disappointed to find that I got the poppy seeds instead of the cactus.... man I like hallucinogens a lot more than opiates.

Anyways, I got my organic brown rice flour, vermiculite, perlite, tubaware thing from target and some lysol.

3 cups Vermiculite
1 1/2 cups Water
1 1/2 cups Organic Brown Rice Flour

to make 6 jars. Two of which wouldn't fit in the pot soo yeah I skipped on those and will sterilize them later. I sadly didn't have a pressure cooker and had to boil them in a pot for 1 hr. 15 min. and let them cool naturally. Of course when preparing the substrate I lysoled the bathroom and let it sit then did the mixing in their. For inoculation I used the same bathroom to inject the spores into the cups, which were covered by two layers of foil and I took one of and stuck the sterilized needle in through one of the foil layers.

So I only have 4 inoculated so far and hope at least one comes out uncontaminated.... I know I kind of went ghetto, but really I'd be happy with only one cake. Just need a couple grams dry to get me and some good friends and loved ones through the summer. We don't dose to high.

Another thank you haha. But yeah probably won't be any pics for a week or two to let the mycelium colonize.

To be honest the best growth rate I've ever had was from noc'ing up 10 jars of whole brow rice boilded 10 mins w// 1/2 verm on top. I let that shit sit a week and 3/4 were completely colonized.

gt is a really great strain, such a diverse trip it's unreal. every time i've tried gt i've had a completely different experience. still growing it, i'm looking for a clone right now, and growing a thai strain from spores.

from one to another, get a pc. i know you know, but i'm going to pester.... pc will make you SO much happier! :p

Thank you guys for all the attention. I'm hoping for the best! The only problem is I'm not sure how hot/cold the temperature is in my closet though there are two 42 watt CFL's in there helping some bagseed sprouts which may provide more heat, but the 4 jars are in one of my cabinet drawers in complete darkness.

Better get a thermometer/humidity gauge.I'm no expert, but I think those two things are pretty important to your mushroom growing success.http://shop.ebay.com/items/__thermometer-humidity-gauge_W0QQLHQ5fBINZ1QQLHQ5fIncludeSIFZ1QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em301

Alright, the girlfriend should be supplying me with a thermometer. Need to go out and get a hygrometer though...

Gonna follow this grow. I've been deciding between Golden Teacher or some other strain, so I wanna see how this turns out. Can't wait to see some pics.

hey sniper, try to get some PAN CYAN prints aka blue meanies. Alot better to grow and more potent than GT's. and you really need to get a pressure cooker to get all the bad bugs out of your substrate. I didnt have one when i first started and was getting lots of contams in my jars. Are you going to case your jars or leave them as cakes???

Thanks, will definitely try PE next grow. But yeah, I'm growing them as cakes unless I can case BRF cakes with straight vermiculite.

you can, or you can do 50/50 peat/verm.peat makes it easier to see how moist the casing layer is; verm doesn't change color when wet.

Thanks, but do you think I could use Jiffy-7 Peat pellets for the peat moss? Also, if these 4 jars don't work out I'm going to get one of these two. Anyone have advise for which to choose?
Mushroom Grow Bag
or
Sterilized Super MycoJar
actually, i'd suggest neither. by the time you spend on bags or jars and shipping, you could have bought a really nice pressure cooker or autoclave/canner. once you have a pc, your contam worries are OVER! half pint jars are about 6$ for a dozen, so that's pretty cheap too.

as for the pellets, i think that would be more expensive than the alternative. a small bag of peat moss (sometimes labeled as sphagnum) costs 2-4$, same as vermiculite. 72 jiffy pellets is now around 6$.... :p

really, a pc is your best bet to jars. grains are awesome vs cakes, as grain to grain is an option then, and colonizes faster than a lc inoculation. i use corn, and soon to start spawning to cow poo and hay.... :p
