pruning B4 Blooming?

Hello Ya'll

I am about to send my Baby to Bloom and I am not sure if I should Prune some of the leaves or leave them alone.

the reason I ask is because in a book I read by Ed Rosenthal it says that a plant should be pruned before flowering but when I bought the plant (Clone) the bank gave me a catalog that said my specific strain (Purple Kush) is "SUPOSED to have Big Fan leaves" so I am not sure, furthermore I am unsure what parts to cut.

I took a picture with my guesses let me know if I am right please?

thanks for all your help,

yo snappy you should clone it this way you can have multiple ladies going into bloom way more yield. This way you can have a trimmed mother with little ladies all around. And dont cut any fan leaves off...those are what are taken in all the light for the photosynthesis. Trim the stocks coming out from the fan leaves from the nodes. These will be the clones your taking. honestly i think this is the best way to go and it's beneficial to you. :leaf::peace::leaf:

Hey Soul,

thanks for the reply. I am kinda working on 2 things right now.

I have this plant in a CFL phototron, at the same time i built a grow box (I placed instructions on here if you're interested check out my posts -work in progress) in the box I have a 400W HPS but for 1 plant it will be too much on the electric bill so I want this particular plant to bloom already so that I can get 2 more strains and place them in my Box.

thank for your attention.

i see. Well i would utilize the 400w to its potential thats why i suggested you clone that bushy one you wanna flower in the picture. You can still put her to bloom but you should clone her first this way when they root you can put them in with the mother to flower. AND you'll have 2 diff harvests. Also you can flower the mother with your cfl set up or (bright whites) till the clones root. approx. 7days. honestly you would yield 6 times more if you did this and you can still put the mother into 12/12 right after you take clones. Then when they do root put them ALL under the 400w hps. WHEWWWWW brother your in the golden then....ahaha :peace: :joint:

you are so persuasive that you have me wondering now. thing is I turned the lights off already and I would not want to shock my baby any further.

Question though!!!

I was thinking of buying 2 more clones when this one is done, but do you think I should just buy one, clone it my self and get 2 more tiny ones for a 3 plant total???

can you guide me on how I should do this please???

the clones I buy are about 5 inches already don't know if that helps in your advice? I should let it grow first right??? would you mind doing a step by step for all us un-enlightened please???

Yo Snappy i just checked out your journal and seen what your working with i also understand you wanna start 2 diff strains but i still think cloning that lady and flower all them then you can finish up on the cfl set up you got there. Man you got it. keep me posted.

Pruning is done so that the canopy is thinner and more light is able to penetrate to the lower buds, therefore allowing them to grow larger, thicker and upward, toward the light. So, check the penetration on your bottom leaves while it is in its growspot, if you can't see light through the lower leaf canopy itself, then u need to prune. Start slowly and sterile, from the top down, for the top are the oldest/largest & thickest leaves.

Yea i mean you really dont have to buy anymore clones till next harvest. When your lady does wake up you should get some cloning gel or rooting hormone in the meantime. Then cut your clones off. The ones you cut should look like the one you bought. Put them in rockwool or pette pellets. Then in 10 days or less they will be rooted then you can plant them in a pot with soil. By this time your mother you took the clones off would be in flowering in the box you got. You can take 3-4 clones to be on the safe side. (increases your chances of clones that survive.) ALSO do you already have your lights on 12/12? Let me know if i left anything out and if so feel free to ask anything dude...peace brother:joint:

I did turn the lights off to 12/12, Last night was the first time she took a nap. Do you think I can clone her while the lights are on still since it's only been one day? or should I wait, now that she has slept?

well what better way to prune than too clone the canopy your pruning. Very efficient in my mind. Dude when you harvest this one plant....im pretty sure your gonna be like damn i wish i had some more of this amazing budd...Then your gonna remember oh wait i do because i cloned it....ahahaha :bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint:

just wait till she wakes up you dont want to give her light shock. But get the stuff to clone before you do so. Look in the threads here there are some good tips on cloning and what you need. I used a DIY system for the clones. Just make sure they get plenty of humidity and also make sure the leaves are always moist. I used a 2litter and put it on top of the clone this way to trap in the humidity.

try training your plant instead of chopping leaves,

you make a hole in all sides of your pot (good if your using square pots) take a bit of string and pull down a branch on each side this lets all the lower bits get light.

yea i'd say LST is far more superior to cutting any leaves but if he cloned and then did some LST with the mother...Snappy your in bussiness dude. :eyesmoke:

Be careful pruning after u started flowering. the stems are strengthening to hold the bud weight, and you can shock them, or just stunt they're growth altogether :( You may prune very early into flowering, but it's best done during veg, when the plant is not focused on producing fruit.
