So it's saturday, i'm stoned and i feel like starting a protest. What I want from this protest is for the owner(s) of this site to take off the bullshit "legal marijuana" advertisements. In my opinion it is a bad.. no, a terrible! representation of this site and it should be taken away immediately... this isnt the "waste your money on fake bullshit" website is it? because i thought it was dedicated to the growing of Cannabis, our long and loyal friend... please, have a conscience and get rid of that shit,, sure you might lose out on a few bucks but hey,, at least you will sleep better at night.

so i will start of signing this protest

you know the gallery? i'm sure that costs money to maintain, they put a few (and i think it is very few) advertisements they can help pay for the disc space this website uses to keep people learning.

It's not a matter of knowing how, it's a matter of being allowed. To close the thread, that is. Same thing with the options bit gogrow mentioned. I'm sure that if you pay up you can make the advertising go away.

On one hand I'm with you on this, on the other... it's not "my" site, and I know the bandwidth costs moolah, so.. plus, rollitup is pretty damn generous with how much s/he allows folks here to chew up the bandwidth with big-ass pictures, allowing all of us our galleries, and so on. In any event, I'll be honest, it just doesn't bother me enough to put up a fuss. There are other things that bother me a whole lot more and I've learned to pick my battles. :)

i think the more they get clicked on the more we get paid. i could be wrong, as a mod i don't see them. i know this site does not generate profit for the owner. :)

LOL.... well I'm still a little scratched up from the last debate I got into over the issue of one being able to make as much money as they can in this business without being labeled a sellout.....

Anyway... here's my 2 cents... it's their website..... it cost money to run, they can advertise whatever they like...... and those that don't like it are free to leave. The only sites I've ever participated in where there was no advertising are sites where EVERYONE has to pay up to be a member.

So it's ok to advertise.... just not a product you consider bullshit? So you immediately slap on the label of "sellout"??? To me this reeks of the same indignation some have that a few are profiting "too much" off of their knowledge and their name so therefore they are a sellout.

I haven't seen the bank books or financial records for this site... I have no idea what the current operating costs of this site are...... have you? It's pretty easy to sit back and be judgmental about how they are operating their site when you have no idea what it really takes. My best guess is that this site... is not operating at a profit...... and if it is....likely a very small profit.

I'm sure I'll get rocks thrown at me again for my capitalist views... whatever! Personally I hope the owners of RIU are able to make as much money as they possibly can!

if i am not mistaken, i disabled the ads long before "elite" was in existence; so i dont believe it to be an elite only option....i have been wrong before though... ill look into it.

I have yet to find an option in my own settings to get rid of advertising. I assumed that this is because I am not a paying member.

I don't have a prob because its their site and damn we use alot and I meen alot of space up-loading pics and videos for journals and such so that advertisement is helping to pay for this site , and besides I don't see alot of people paying to be a member so its the other way that they can keep this site going

i don't think we've taken money for membership in several months. unless rollitup is doing it some way other than paypal. paypal was shut down after the first month. has anyone become elite in the last few weeks?

i wonder what it costs for my posts and pics alone. :)
