Just thought I'd let anyone who might be wondering what happened to me know that my computer caught a horrible virus Saturday night. :wall:
It won't stop, and just keeps spreading more and more no matter what scans/repairs I apply. From all I've read about this virus/trojan (Win32/Virut.17408 .... A.K.A., fucking evil!!!), my only option is to delete my partition, clean the MBR, then reinstall WinBlow$. That'd be an option, if my WinBlow$ CD hadn't "mysteriously" disappeared.... i.e., someone who was not me decided to "clean house" by randomly picking up things that weren't theirs (I had the CD out to reinstall some drivers a few months ago) and then put said things wherever they decided to drop them at the moment.... most likely in one of the countless boxes in the garage that are full of who knows what unsorted things they contain. It pisses me off to no end when people lose my things! If you don't care about your own stuff, fine. But keep your paws off of my shit!!!

ANYHOOO, so my son's friend works in the computer biz and is a bit of a "virus expert" so to speak, and he said that he's going to do all he can to get my computer running again. He's also working on getting me a WinBlow$ CD. Thing is, he's extremely busy between working full time and school. He did say to call him on Saturday afternoon, so I'm really hoping he can come over then.

I mean, it's not as if I have a life outside of my home, much less outside of my TV or computer, and don't care much about getting to use my computer. Needless to say, all I've been doing this last week is troubleshooting, researching, and attempting to repair to no avail. The only thing going well in my life is that my plants are still growing happily.... but I haven't taken any photos (gee, wonder why?!) all week.

Wish me luck, cross fingers, pray, meditate, cast a spell.... whatever you believe in or how you approach such ideals, sending "happy thoughts" or "positive energy" (or whatever) my way would be much appreciated. And hey, if by any chance you're reading this and happen to be very virus/trojan savvy, feel free to drop me an email!!! (Same name as here, at gmail.) I'll have T's laptop tomorrow (Friday), so I'll have a clean computer to use for the day. I'm planning on doing as little troubleshooting as possible (unless I happen to be contacted by someone who can help me with this) and try to actually catch up with my friends for once! I'm going sooo crazy!!!

I am physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got yet another "removal tool" (one I couldn't access till about ten minutes ago, as the author's site is blocked by this virus as are any other "secure" sites for virus removal, but I just found the file hosted at a techie blog I was able to access, BUT don't think it'll work according to the myriad of techie forum posts about the Win32/Virut family), so it's time to yet again boot into safe mode and probably sit through another four-or-more-hour-scan-and-repair attempt. What fun.

Well, I was right.... the "fix it" prog didn't get it all. Helped a bit, but that doesn't matter much, because it just starts vastly spreading again as soon as you boot into WinBlow$, even in safe mode. It resides in your memory, not just in files; that's why this is such a difficult, if not impossible, virus to kill. And from all the techie posts I've read about this one, it's impossible to kill without wiping out your HD and starting from scratch; even then it may not be gone, unless you can absolutely clean the MBR.

I downloaded a new copy of Ubuntu onto T's computer this morning (you don't want to download anything on a computer infected with Win32/Virut, because it'll just infect the files immediately), put it on a clean flash drive, and when our roommate gets home in the next couple of days I'll burn that onto a CD with his computer (I'm also in the middle of finding and replacing the driver for T's CD/DVD drive; I just love all this computer work! lol).

So instead of continuing to rip my hair out over this, I'm going to finally make the switch from WinBlow$ to Linux. (Ubuntu is a "desktop" version of Linux, which is designed much like the M$ OS environment RE: how the user sees/uses programs instead of everything being command prompt, so it's much easier to learn than a "regular" Linux OS.) I've used Ubuntu before, and really liked it. I didn't stick to learning the differences out of laziness  but this virus has made me "decide" to do it once and for all. I've been wanting to get away from being a prisoner of M$ for a very long time. So I can look at this fiasco as a good thing in that respect, if nothing else.... I'll finally be making my escape. (Really trying to see a bright side here! lol)

Once I make the switch and get it all set up the way I want/need, I won't have to worry much about viruses anymore (Linux isn't anywhere near as vulnerable as WinBlow$), and I'll also be able to use the kinds of programs I want without having to spend hundreds of dollars on each one (or pirating LMAO). But don't worry.... as much as I've always hated WinBlow$ and only used it out of laziness (it's easier to use what's bundled with the PC than it is to install and learn something different), I won't become one of those Linux Elitists that look down on M$ OS users. ;)

So what did I do with T's laptop today, aside from setting up an Ubuntu download? Practically nothing.... I laid down this morning for a "power nap" and slept nearly all day! I really needed it though, cause I haven't slept much at all this week. Between being so pissed about this virus, and the fact that it all began with a bipolar episode (I was manic and ran a downloaded file without stopping to scan it first, which I'd never have done had I not been manic, so this whole thing is my own stupid fault), sleep has been a fairy tale for me. So although I didn't get to have any fun online today as I'd planned, at least I did finally get a little bit of rest.

I guess this incident proved me wrong to an extent.... just last week, I was telling our roommate that being physically disabled has stopped me from doing stupid things when I get manic. OK, so it prevents me from doing really stupid (not to mention often dangerous) things we hear about bipolars doing during manic episodes, but I can still fuck up my computer! :bigjoint:

Well, time to go feed my babies! I'll get photos ASAP.... they're growing like weeds!!! :weed:

You could also boot Ubuntu as your primary through the flash drive. This will leave your HDD dormant allowing you access to files you wouldn't be able to see before, thus keeping the virus from spreading. Just an idea if you wanted to keep Windows.

Sucks big time! People that write this kind of shit need to be beaten to within an inch of their lives.... slowly, methodically, and very brutally!!!

Thanks Fox! I didn't even think about that! I got all thunked out around Friday. Do I have to do anything in the BIOS to see to it that it'll boot from the flash drive, or no? (I'll probably find out before I get online again to see an answer. lol) Well then, I'll get a prog to unzip the Ubuntu .iso file from Ubuntu on T's computer, write that to my flash drive, and see what happens! Yeah, I'm still without my own computer..... BLAH!!! I have been sooo bored!

HEY, our friend just said a moment ago to T that he has a WinBlow$ 7 CD that I can have! It'll only be good till May, but that'll give me plenty of time to learn Ubuntu more thoroughly than I did before, and then decide if I want to purchase another WinBlow$ CD or not. T's picking it up tomorrow night (and taking my laptop with him for our friend to look over; his profession is fixing computers), so in the next couple/few days I should have something to run on my computer. Maybe I'll get to take a few photos of my girls, too!

hey kat, what up!!! way to go man. i hope the NL pheno you've got is the sativa pheno. it is just better than the indica pheno, imo. oh btw the main difference in the two phenos, apart from their stature, is the calyxes, and the pistils, and the amount of trichs(dead giveaway).

#1 on the indica pheno the calyxes are pretty much covered up by the pistils which are mostly long and thin, and this gives the look that there are a lot of pistils, some what of an airy non-compacted look. but as the calyxes swell and become more pronounced the pistil to calyx ratio look evens out. its seems slow to mature, but its one of those plants that if a couple of days go by without you paying any attention you'll notice the growth. know what i mean? good producer, it just does'nt float my boat. my freinds love it though. also it does produce a few trichs but you have to get up ont to see them. not magnifying glass close but, close. i harvested ahlf at eight weeks, and the rest at nine. neither one did it for me, but that's just me. oh yea, it had virtually no smell during it's whole life cycle.

#2 the SATIVA PHENO.........my God. it looks exactly like the picture of the plant that they use to advertise. ok, first off it gets taller(since you're LSTing that does'nt apply)next the pistils are short and thick looking, and they don't over shadow the calxyes, and after about two weeks the calyxes are very visible. as the plant matures the calyxes swell and become very detailed looking like green BB's with white and gold hairs sticking out. the trichs start forming early, and by the time it's harvest time the buds are completely covered, literally. i cut half at eight weeks and half at nine weeks. at nine weeks the smoke was good, but not as good as the part i took down at eight weeks, but the trichs look like someone had airbrushed the buds and parts of the larger fan leaves, like a morning frost. now on the one i cut at eight weeks, the trichs looked like it had been lightly misted with water and gently rolled in sugar. oh man, it was a very up high. it felt like there was about a two inch gap between my head and my neck. as far as smell it has a light piney, sweet scent. that's the best i can do, i'm not good at describing smells. but it wasn't loud AT ALL.
but they all look good. and you , you dont look like you need any advice at all. you got it going on. the reason i went on describing the two is because you are LSTing and you would not be able to tell by vertical growth. but hell, so far so good. sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, just had a lot going on. gonna be gettin a camera this weekend, got alot of pics to take, and buds to show. i'm also gonna have a small FYI about the importance of the quality of your lights, wih some pretty good(i think)comparison shotsof of the two different NL phenos, and the Blue Venom plant.

hey one more thing fore i go. right now the camera i have(cell)is 1.3pixels. now i trying to choose between an eight and ten pixel camera. what's going to be the difference. and since i'm trading up from so far down, does it really make a difference. thanks.

PEACE!!!

Does that answer your question? Our friend (and my former guitarist, I miss performing sooo much!) said to bring my laptop to him tomorrow night. T is working the night shift tonight though, on top of all day today and tomorrow, so it may still have to wait. (I can rarely drive, and there's no way I could ever drive as far as our friend lives from us.) T has been leaving his laptop here for me while he's at work, so I've been able to browse and have a little fun the last couple of days... way better than having only TV to distract the mind!

Hiya Zen, great to see you! Thanks for the vote of confidence! I guess I needed it more than I thought I did, cause it gave me a really big & happy smile. :D I'm not entirely sure if I ended up with the indica or sativa NL yet; so far I've had two males. (Put another into the tent last week, and he revealed his sex yesterday.) The one I finished growing outside did get just as tall as the sativas I have in flower now (which are nearly twice as tall as the indica), but I can only go by that till I get a female into flower. Eight more NL seeds to go, so I've gotta have at least one girl in there, right?

I'll be watching for the light quality and indica/sativa NL differences. :hump:

The camera I've got has about 0 mega pixels. (It's in the other room, and I don't feel up to getting up just to look at that piece of crap right now. LOL) I was looking on eBay for a better camera, but that'll have to wait another month or so. Money sucks, and the lack thereof more so! I've been looking at 10-12 mega pixel cameras; the highest quality I can find below $150 is what I'll end up getting, or below $100 if I can manage to find something decent enough.

GypsyBush has a pretty sweet point-and-shoot. Ask him.
I'd love to find out what Gypsy's got... such perfectly crisp shots he takes! :hump:

I also need to get a new SD card for my camera now. It was in my computer when the virus attacked, and it writes to all media in your computer! Hey Fox, if I format the SD card in the camera, do you know if that would be thorough enough to prevent infecting T's computer? I don't want to risk it though; going without photos of my girls another week or so is most definitely the lesser of two evils.

You could look through his picture depot where he posted it, but that would probably take a couple weeks. You're better off with a PM.:mrgreen::mrgreen:

I wouldn't risk it. Who knows how well the format capabilities of that camera perform. I've never really looked into that.

sorry i'm late. had to feed the babies!!! sorry bout the pc issues. that really stinks. subscribed!
Thanks guitarzan! Damn babies want us feeding them, what's up with that?!

Nope, not worth it. I've never looked into that either. I paid bills yesterday, and may not be able to get a SD card till after the 1st! But I'm gonna see what I can juggle, cause the BH should be ready (or else extremely close) to harvest by then.

My roommate picked up some plastic "bamboo" support sticks for me yesterday. Plant "B" (still pretty sure it's Pure Power Plant) is already falling over, the buds are too heavy for the branches! Half the branches are about an inch from leaning directly on the back of the tent. He's going to cut them for me (they're four feet long, so cut into thirds should be a good length), then I'll get those branches standing straight again.

The two sativas still smell only like plants, no MJ scent to them yet. The Blue Hash (indica), on the other hand, stinks sooo good! :weed:

Man, my plants were doing the same thing. They were hanging so low, they started to break branches. I had to tie them to my tent supports.

Makes you feel good when you can grow buds your plant can't handle,.

OK, so I took a few photos a bit ago, loaded them onto my computer, and can't get any further than that. Tried to resize them in Gimp (my computer is now running Ubuntu), but it didn't do it... I mean, it said "Undo Resize" in the command history, but when I saved the file it was still huge. So I went to upload them to my RIU album, as the upload page says it'll resize your images if they're too large, but I keep getting an error page saying, "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing."

Can't use WinBlow$ as it's too vulnerable. Can't do image editing in Ubuntu because I don't know the freaking Linux programs well enough yet.

I'm so very tired of troubleshooting computers for weeks on end. At least I have a browser now, but that seems to be it. I give up. :wall:
