Projects...

I know we have a lot of handy people on the boards here so I figured why not make a projects thread. No rules really. Just post about something you've built/fixed/created etc. Or a new tool you just bought. Or whatever. Just keep it civil, don't make the penguin cry.

One thing I enjoy doing is refinishing furniture. As previously stated in another thread I was able to get my hands on my mom's student desk from her childhood, circa 1950's, and I'm going to refinish it and give it to my daughter. It is in bad shape.

It's got rust, nail polish, stickers, gauges and there's metal and wood to refinish. Going to be a long slow process. But I haven't done a refinishing project in a year or two and this one fell right into my lap. Not quite sure yet what I want to do with the metal, I was thinking of painting it red and then going with my trusty Min Wax Early American and a semi-gloss urethane for the wood.

Anywho, I'll update again when I actually start or finish and do some before and after shots. In the mean time post what you're working on, I always like learning new things.

I broke the track on my little Speed Cat today so that'll be another project I get to tackle.

Guess that's what I get for seeing what the old thing can do.:-|

diy space rocket, it would put plants into space, the oxygen it produces would be stored into tanks for transfer to habitates in space.

For your own peace of mind I strongly suggest you get that desk appraised and see if any antique dealers want to buy it before you refinish it. Surprisingly there are people who will pay outrageous prices for things I might leave at a dumpster so you might want to check on that. Then again you may have far better insight into these things than I do :)

I came in here to tell stories about inner city living, lol.

I've made a couple pairs of knuckledusters recently, I'm working on making a 4-corner door lock out of 1/4" thick 3" angle iron and 1/4" thick 3" square tubing. Helps to keep out the riffraff when they try to serve no-knocks or door-to-door fugitive search at 3 in the morning.

I am still working on creating .66667% of a miniature star, and was thinking about building a Schrodinger's bong -- I'm afraid the possibility of dead cat and poison in the bong water might spoil the hits, though.

Looks like this particular one goes for about $100 a pop on ebay. Even if it was worth beaucoup bucks I'd still keep it, I'd like to think. Thanks for the heads up though. :-)

Here's my next project if the weather's permitting. It's an old equipment trailer I want to repaint and run new wiring and lights on. I picked it up to haul machinery and building materials.

I'm going to color match it to my skid steer and paint the rims AC orange, the fenders black and the frame white. New LED lights for better visibility.

That pretty much looks like the one we haul our bobcat on. Diamondback?

It came with homemade ramps, no tilt. Brakes are disconnected also but I don't plan on hauling much with it. Still pulled the skidsteer nicely behind my Durango.

Thanks Neo, once I get going on a project I'm like a machine. Sucks to hear about your finger. I had the same thing happen to me this Spring. Hurt like hell for almost a week. Hope it heals up alright for you.
