Project Grow Room is a Go!

Designs have stabilized and the money is in the bank. Ready to order parts! So excited!

Enclosure will be built with 1" PVC and Foylon walls. It will measure 5.3' x 3.75' x 6'. The enclosure will be anchored to pressure treated plywood at the base. If need be, it will also be anchored to the basement ceiling. Foylon will be attached with Wide and Tough Gorilla Tape. Weatherstripping will be placed along the edges. (the big brown box behind the grow is a half wall in the basement.)





Intake fan will be a 6" inline 240CFM duct fan filtered with an automotive cabin air filter at the intake.

Exhaust fan will be a Ventech 6" inline fan and carbon filter combo.

Power will be supplied by a 15 A Circuit spliced from the nearby 20 A Bathroom circuit, mounted in an RV electric hook-up.

Lighting will be two Apollo 400 Watt ballasts with wing hoods, swapped between HPS/MH as appropriate.

Controller will be a Raspberry Pi, with relay switched outlets and temp/hum inputs.




Grow Containers will be 5 Gallon Food Grade Buckets sitting on milk crates with 6" net pots in the lids. They will have either 2 or 4 mist nozzles depending on mist pattern. They will drain from the bottom, back into the reservoir.

Reservoir will be ~10 gallon in size, sourced locally, and depends on local pricing and availability.

Pump will be an Aquatec 8800 RO Booster pump with an 80/100 Pressure switch and Shurflo RV Accumulator.







Can't wait to finish up some home repairs, clean the basement and garage and get to work!

Top mounted nozzles in a 5 gal bucket with a 6" netpot will leave almost no room for the mist. You may as well save the cash and use lpa. The roots will make a beeline for the nozzles and quickly smother them.

Ya, I will probably end up bringing the nozzles in from the side and installing root trellis.

Man must be nice to have that much time on your hands to sketch all that up for PVC and duct tape.

5 X 3 ? when you think your grow room is big enough, build / get one bigger.

It's just the kind of person I am, I like to plan everything out and basically make myself a how to guide so I don't do random shit while I am building.

The back of a cigarette packet is all you need :)
Looking forward to seeing how you manage to get a root trellis in a 5 gal bucket.
So do I!

Use two inch net pots leaves lot more room in the buckets and also get some two inch collars and and a few 5 inch collars when they get older

And anthor suggestion if your going to use buckets for areo why not just do a bucket flood and drain ???

Loved the drawings, great job! Thanks for sharing, might I suggest buying bucket lids w the 6" net pot built in, cost about $2.50 each but well worth it imo.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was browsing the local hydro stores today and realized just how big the 6" really is, but pre-built lids with net pots would be super easy. hmmm decisions.

Well, mainly because I want to do aero. I know it isn't the cheapest or simple, but I just really like the idea of it, and it gives me a system that I can tune and continue working on.

You`ll run into all kinds of issues using hpa in 5 gal buckets, 20gal would be better and ideally 40-50.

really? I don't fully understand why, I see 6" PVC systems all over the place and that seems smaller then a 5 gallon bucket. Do you mean like the 40 Gallon Rubbermaid totes, per plant?

Also you have to worry about the drainage hole in the spray chamber. I'm not sure the size you've planned but I would recommend a drain hole at least 2" in circumference or else the roots will clog that hole and water will stagnate.

Thanks, ya I was looking at 1/4" tubing today and realized the drain needs to be way bigger then that :)

A 6" pvc pipe running hpa or lpa would give you the same result, except one is a lot more expensive. Google for "forget the fogger" and take a look at the 5gal bucket root pics on page 59 and 66 and see what you think.

They are an example of what hpa roots shouldnt look like :)
Heres some that had more space. In full sun, the chamber temp can peak over 85F and they still dont turn that nasty brown colour.
