Progress report...not impressed.

Yeah, I haven't done a study on it myself... I have heard over and over that once the tap root hits bottom, you run the risk of being stunted. Not to mention! Think it is too soon to judge how his grow went... Wait till it's all said and done to pass judgement.

So why would this be any different than a photo plant? Photos can get root bound all to hell, get transplanted and then carry on happily. I fail to see the logic in this whole transplant thing. I can see it affecting growth if the soil falls apart and your tear a bunch of roots during the process but if it’s done smoothly into the same properly prepped medium then it shouldn’t matter, IMO...but I’m no botanist, just an average bohonk trying to grow some decent pot.

Here is a link to Jordan from AFN as a guest speaker talking about the tap root and how it functions differently from photo's. I have tons of respect for this guy, he's really well spoken and seems to know his stuff.

skip to about 17:30 min into the video.

I'm not sure if links are allowed. If not here is a quick summary of what he had to say.

Ruderalis has a fast seeking tap root. Once it hit's bottom its going to stop sending out that "seeking root and start pumping out lateral root growth" limiting it's size or stunting it.

Let us just say that a photoperiod takes e to 5 days to "recoup" from being transplanted... Not a big deal. You just leave the photoperiod in veg until you are ready to put it into flower. But with an auto... That same 3-5 days would be significant. You often only get 4-5 weeks of veg with an auto because the auto flowers when it wants to... Not when you want it to. That 3-5 days could be as much as 17% of your veg period. That would make a noticeable difference in the end yield.
