Problems with young plant

Hey guys

I have a planet that's about 3 weeks along, it's a feminized blueberry that I ordered a few months ago. It's been growing quite slow and the bottom 2 leaves are yellow and look dead. The plant isn't stretching out either and the leave seem to be drooping/curling at the end, even though I've been watering it every few days, and the top of the soil isn't bone dry.

Is there something I can do about this? It's under 3 40 watt cfl's, in a closet, with reflection all around. It's warm in there, and the lights are close. I used Scott's potting soil, has fertz in there for a few months, but I haven't added anything.

Hope the picture can help a little, it's all I can do right now.

Thanks!

could be a couple of things, i'd check the pH of the soil and water

it doesnt sound like ur overwatering it, but the droopy leaves are a sign of that

and whats your reflection? if it foil then remove it

and lastly, the light may be too close, goodluck

3 x 40 watt cfls seems like overkill for one small plant, personally id use just one. How hot is it in there? How close are your lights? I've never used Scott's, I prefer straight potting soil which I bake to kill the nasties and then mix with perlite.

Sometimes when we put a tiny plant in a decent sized planter, with soil, that plant will all but cease above ground activity while the roots grow* (*what you want) to fill the planter. This is the beginning of your root-ball and you want it to fill your smaller pots.

Since the roots seek water/moisture, and you're keeping your soil damp (over-watering) the roots aren't having to seek, so the above ground growth is just waiting for the roots to catch up . . . few roots=little/no foliage growth.
This happens a lot. You need to limit your watering to when it's needed. Never water when the surface shows any sign of moisture (unless you're flushing, etc.)
If you can find any moisture w/a fingertip, you probably do not need to water.

Stop watering and, if there are roots growing, that growth should improve, followed by the vegetation.
IMO.

Well what I meant was the top of the soil was dry, ill make sure to keep it moist at least a little.
Took a light out too. And I didn't add fertz to the soil, but Scotts Potting Soil has some pre mixed.

Over the past like week and a half, I only watered it with about 4 cups, on 2 different separate occasions, so 8 or 10 cups of water over the past 2 weeks. The top of the soil is always dry when I water it. -shrug-

I'll see if she improves any now

you can buy a soil moisture meter at walmart for like $4-6. stick it down half way into the pot and it will give you a general idea how moist it is deep down.

it's hard to say if your overwatering without knowing the pot size. if it's a 5-6 pot 4 cups over a week is a lot. if it's a bigger 1 gal pot then it might be ok.. all depends on the pot size. but a general rule is add water around the stem/plant and not the whole pot.. this leaves the soil around the pot dryier and cause the roots to grow further out by looking for water.

depending how fast the soil dries out, i'd add about 1/2 cup every 3 days or so.. it's a small seedling and doesn't it doesn't drink much water.

i would not use more than 1 cfl on the plant since it's small.. keep the light 5-8 inches from it for the time being.. then bring it closer as they grow.

it does look better but you should find a substitute for that aluminum foil (it doesn't reflect as much as you think)
