problems cloning

Hello all !!!!!
Having a problem cloning my mother plants. Using large shoots for each clone and all they do is shrivel up after a few days. I disinfect all my equipment and hands before making any cuts. Using Wilson Root Stimulator gel and make small angled nicks in the stem to assist the rooting gel. About an inch or so of stem in underneath the soil for each cut, all large leaves are cut away and under a dome. I mist the clones 2 or 3 times a day using a weak solution of organic fertilizer. I also tried Plant Pro rooting powder but it is for semi-hardwood which produces the same results. Any thoughts on the subject?

Thanks in advance

i find taking clipping 4"or 5" works best. and have you cut back on the nitregon befor cutting clones. you want to do that. thats why its best to cvut during the 1st 2 weeks in flower.

I will try longer cuttings, and no I'm not taking clones when flowering the plants, they are my mother plants. I germinated 4 seeds, one got killed by a cat and one died so I'm left with 2 plants which seem to be doing quite well, however, I don't know what sex is which, so I wanted to make a bunch of clones, flower one from each plant to find out their sex. Also forgot to add that the clones are under 2 32W 6500K CFLs. The lights were close to the plants at first, then I decided to move the lights higher, now they are about a foot above the clones

Any advice would be helpful
Thanks in advance

Not that it matters now, but I will now try to flower the plants and then do my clones. Funny thing is that the last grow I did, I did a few clones when they were in the veg state and it worked out fine. I stopped growing for a bit for a few reasons, then started with new seeds (the pics I posted recently) and of course you know I'm having problems cloning this time around. Read some blogs on cloning when in veg state, this person uses the big fan leaves from the bottom. I tried one, and it worked, or at least it has been alive for 2.5 weeks now. Thought I would write this just in case anybody had any comments.

PS Thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far.
Funny thing is I've read so many articles about growing MJ, i almost consider myself experienced, however, without the help of ppl on this site and may others I'd be dead in the water. For what it's worth

Peace

Ive always made it my schedule to clone 10 days into flower, I thin the plants at that point anywas to take out some of the foilage that receives little light and to direct the plants energy to the colas. But taking the clones at this point has always left me with great success with my clones. Its not 100% when I do soil, but thats normal anyways.

heat is a big factorwhen cloning but to much is bad. i do mine under va 400wtt mh temps stays at 79 degrees with a humidity around 85% to 90%.

Couldn't I just reduce the nitrogen to the plants for a period of time, so that the clones will work better? I did clones in veg before and it worked fine, however they were different plants.

PS anybody have any experience making clones from the big fan leaves? I've tried 2 (one from each plant) and they have been alive for a week so far. The stem and leaf are nice and stiff, however the fingers on the leaf are yellowish.

Simple 90%+ success rate. 45°cut slit or don't the stalk place in solo cup put plastic wrap on top tape to seal. Put under any flouro. Takes 2weeks without slitting takes3 with slitting but better root system. Its super cheap and easy. Oh use clone plugs not rockwool or dirt.

you should always veg till it shows you pre flowering pistols if not then your plant is not mature enuf for flowering not saying you cant flower but the potency will be less for sure

yeah I do see pre flowers on the taller plant now, hopefully it is female when I flower it. however this wasn't the problem. The problem is trying get my clones to work. I\ll ask the question again. Can't I reduce the nitrogen during veg to make better clones and does anybody have experience making clones from the big fan leaves?

why r u misting them 2-3 times a day? r u using a humidity dome? depending on medium u should cut dip into solution and place into the medium and leave alone for at least the first couple of days. spray the inside of the dome to add humidity. after day one or two open up the dome for a minute or two for a little for fresh air. i have noticed if leaves get wet it hurts them. i have cloned into almost every medium except soil. right now i use vermiculite in 1 or 2 oz plastic cups with holes in the bottom. i also use rooting powder. with rooting powder after u dip the cut into it u just must flick the bottom to knock off excess powder(very important). i think ur misting is screwing them up.

just read ur post more detailed. stop misting with a weak solution. stop misting at all. that is probably killing them. its doing 2 no nos for one the solution is probably burning the leaves number 2 light is reflecting through the water on the leaf causing burn. also ur trying to get the plant to make roots to eat if ur feeding them through there leafs it takes away from that.

if ur thinking ur leaving to much leaf or ur leafs r too big, u can do two things. first read all the tutorials on cloning and try to match the pictures. i do two things i cut my big leaves in half and if lower leaves r dropping after a few days i just cut them off at the stem.

also yellowing is good for clones means there trying make roots. when mine yellow i know they r making roots and they r going to be ready soon.

I'm new 2 cloning also, 5 for 5 with differnt length cuttings(all in veg) with at least 2 fan leaves. I didn't find gel where I went so I got powder, i take the powder and make a paste with water. I make an angle cut from the bottom node down(@ 1" long). then from tip 2 node dip that in water, the paste and making sure that the pastey node is @ an 1" in the soil.

the most important thing with powder is knock off the excess. if not u will suffocate the plant. just give the bottom a good flick with ur finger to knock off the excess.

I have a great success rate with cloning, however It takes me 2 weeks to get good roots, I want to shorten the time frame to 1 week.

I use the following:

Cloning gel
Cuttings of 2 inches in length "thicker the stem the better"
Heat Mat
CFLS
2 weeks worth of waiting, errr

Pre Soak Rockwool cube for 24hours, then let sit for a couple of hours to dry up a bit.

Make cuts on a 45 angle, also make multiple cuts up the stem to increase rooting chances works a treat.

Cut away all lower branches off the clone and cut back the fan leaves in half

Mist once a day

Water 4cmx4cm cubes once a day with water 6mls from underneath

Things I have found not to work for me,

Humdity domes
Heavy Misting
HPS/MH lights

Im not saying do as I do but I have good results with it, also the older the plant the easy I find them to clone.

see my post in this thread for pics https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/284670-2-clones-1-branch.html

i think clone rooting is very dependent on strain. i have had strain root in 5 days and my current takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks. it sucks.
