problem with my hps

ok so i have been growing for a couple of weeks with my cfl but 5 days ago i decided to use my 600watt hps, it was working until today i changed the supernova reflector for a cooltube, i switched the ballast on by accident without the bulb for 5/10 minutes
and now the bulb wont light up at all,
the ballast is making a slight buzz/very fast clicking sound,

could i have damaged the ballast by switching it on with no bulb?

i dont want to have to spend money on a new bulb if it is a problem with the ballast,

i dont have another bulb available to test and there are no shops local that sell hps bulbs so it would have to be bought online and if it still dosent work i doubt i will be able to return it for a refund, any ideas how i can tell if its the bulb or ballast that has the problem?

if it is the ballast can i repair it? as it only has 3/4 components inside,

the ballast is a:

PARLUX dsgb 600ms gearbox for hid lamps (sodium)

the bulb is:
sylvania grolux 600watt

heres a photo of the ballast and bulb,
and also 1 of each of my babies!

thanks for any help

The buzzing isnt really a problem, my ballast was buzzing for the first month constantly then it just stopped.
Can you not open it up to make sure everything is connected properly? Also id recommend buying a new bulb even if its not an issue because its always wise to have a spare lying about.. you dont want to be left with cfl's in the middle of flowering do we.
Could be something to do with leaving it on without the power going anywhere but im dont know much about electrics.
Buy a new bulb try it out and if it still dont work try contacting whoever you purchased the ballast from...
Good luck

if you can get a tester one that buzz when there power and test the med base" that were the bulb go" and if the tester buzz and light up it the bulb. the buzzing is o.k and like bunstinky said have a supply on hand will help in the long run you never know if thing go bad .
