Preventive Steps for your grow

About to move my indoors to outdoor (3 White Widow fem), located in the midwest. Was wondering what are some steps that are good to take in preventing pests from getting to my plants. Spraying BT throughout veg, etc. Trying to prevent any problems so I won't have to deal with any insects later on. also, any stuff I can put around the plant rather than on it?

make a organic bug spray from garlic, jalapenos, green peppers...this sort of mix works well as bugs hate spicy hot things and would think twice b4 eatin on your watch

Are you guys using fresh stuff? Or just powdered?

And are you just applying at night with a mist? How often?

add some type of soap to the mix as a surfacant/wetting agent for longevity. the perfume of the soap also helps to deter pests/insects.

chicken wire cages for animals is the only way! cant preach this enough , ive tried all the animals sprays and bells and sticks, fishing line, just about all of it and the only thing that really works for me is making cages around every plant. mine are 2' tall and 1.5' in diameter, plant your plant then with the cage already in a solid round shape work it into the ground around your plant. then pack the soil around it tightly leaving sort of a circular trench around the outside of the cage. close the top

once the plant has reach the top open it up and let the plant grow out, by this time animals will be familiar with its presence and the other native vegetation should be nice and lush for them to chomp on. in my experiences deer only eat pot when there is nothing else around , and they have been hungry all winter so they try to eat the first green thing they see!

p.s as far as when to apply the spray, at night is best so that it gets a chance to get a good soak. also after a heavy rainfall is usually necesary, my spray is soap/garlic and i can smell if its still on the plant, also just dab your tongue on a leaf and you'll be able to taste it.

good move! if your planning on camoflauging it, a good way to do so is to burn it on a bonfire, itll come out blackish/red kinda burnt rusty look, its works great and its cheap and easy. also i like to pre-cut mine and fold it over twice, this way i can load about 7 of them into my pack and make trips droppin 7 at a time in between grow spots (my shit is all spread out) its a pain in the ass tryin to fit other gear in with the cages . good luck doood your on the right path so far!

oh nice didnt think of burning it! But getting to my spot isnt a problem, can go as often as I want :), very rural area, and plants are about 15 ft apart.
As well as my 3 white widows, i will have 2 auto chemdog outdoor, and 3 hindu kush berry :)

1. Ring of chicken wire around each plant. Thread a piece of cane through it to join it together and anchor it into the ground. If there are deer about, you may have to just fence of the whole area.

2. Copper tape or wire around each plant. Slugs and snails cannot cross it. How good is that? lol

3. Diatomous earth. Look it up, great stuff

4. Foliar feed with seaweed solution. This will benefit your plants as it acts like a tonic and it will make them more resistant to pests and fungi.

5. Make sure they are always moist as this also. A thirsty and stressed plant is a weak plant!

Also, try peeing all around the plants and on any surrounding vegetation. You could go to the barbers and ask for a bag of hair. Spread this all around your enclosure. This works everytime and deer and rabbits will avoid the grow area like the plague!

very cliche, peeing around plants does nothing more than empty your bladder. as for hair, it could work either way. It might help and it may not.

Peeing on a plant in soil actually does work you should of red a bit more before you add negative comments. . .If diluted 1c pee (normal blatter size):4c tap water it can add microelements as well as the much needed nitrogen.:joint:

I used Sevin last year when I noticed holes in my leafs.

It worked pretty good to prevent any other infestations too. I saw a couple Japanese beetles later in season but they didnt hang around.

I stopped using it during flower. Then I had to focus on the mold...

During mid flower there was a week straight of rain, I had to clip off a bunch of buds that had started to rot. I tried to stop it with some Zero Tolerance spray and it worked ok.

This year iam gonna be using GreenCure as a preventative / mold killer

hair doesnt work either, i used to get bags of it from a hairdresser i knew and my shit ended up getting trampled on cause the deer were checkin the new smell and broke some plants . in my mind the only thing that is gonna prevent deer/pest is some thing that moves and or makes noise when they come around or a barricade/fence sort of thing. ive tried bells on strings and even then they must have gotten used to it because it was all torn down within time, stupid idea anyway i was a dumb kid then, bells would have lead ya right to my grow, i was baked 24/7!haha

ive come to the understanding that its the deers home, they are in it for years and years, what ever you spray or throw around they will eventually become aware that it poses no threat to them as nothing ever happens to them when they get ballsy and and start investigating. once they have figured it out they arent scared anymore and they will do as they please. at this point the only thing that is going to be effective is a barrier between them and your plants.

http://www.havahart.com/store/animal-repellents/5265 somethin like this would prolly work good f ya wanna drop $70 bucks for every grow site, their are many similar inventions to this, i used this one for reference. still doesnt beat the one time $40 bucks that i spent on chicken wire for 30 plants that i can use for a life time!

moral of this story is, dont waste your time and money...go get yourself some chicken wire!

sun is comin out, time to get to work! peace!

one more tip: spray your seedlings/clones with your insecticide the night before you bring them outside to harden off or transplant. theres no point of starting them inside if bugs eat half of them the day you put'm out!

wadda ya think your gonna die from a lil insectcide????? my point is spray them when after your lights go off so that the spray (whatever it may be) has a chance to really soak in, if ya spray'em outside during the day with wind, sun etc... its gonna dry really quick and therefore wont be as effective! i dont gets what made ya laugh? idk do it outside at night if your worried about the chemicals or whatever, let them drip dry them bring'em in for the night! also not a bad idea to spray'em twice, that is if your not scared, like natec310!lol!
