well, w/o nutes, you would like to see it in the low single digits. but, most city water ain't all that great. i only use r/o water, and it still is about 5-10 ppm.

i go to those water mills and check the levels. there are also great kitchen sink filters you can get on e-bay or elsewhere.

for dwc it doesnt have to be that low,, I use our town water thats always around 150-250, ppm, with no issues, whats more important is whats makes up the ppm,,

I HATE when people say, "it doesnt matter," or "I use tap and I'm fine," every single source of water is different, even the bottled "spring" water from the store will have different ppm levels. It MATTERS, especially in DWC, ESPECIALLY when you start adding Nutes....150 is a good area for seedlings, but what if OP thought it would be okay to take his 200 ppm tap and add Nutes to it?
The OP is obviously a noob, please do not tell them answers that they cannot easily comprhehnd lol
