ppm question

Wrong question. You should be asking, "what should my EC be", as PPM's are not universal. PPM's are nutrient specific. Different companies use different scales to determine PPM, and people from all over the globe will answer you here on RIU, as would be the same any any othere site. Be careful whom you listen to. I'm sure, just like all the new guys, the hydro store didn't tell you anything, and just tried to sell you a meter to make a buck. Most guy in the USA will just assume Hanna scale without thinking (not to be confused with Hanna products). I personally tend to use Truncheon scale.

Why does this matter? If I answered you with Truncheon scale and you use Hanna, you run the risk of toxicity.

To answer, we'd have to determine what scale your nutrients are in. The testing meters and pens, both, detect "EC", or "electrical continuity ". Then, multiply the "EC" by a factor that which its scale is programed to.

In short, "EC" is universal for any meter or pen, and easy for anyone to help, from any country or nutrient line.

For an answer -

Plants require different levels of all the nutrients for, first, what style grow you have, and second, then how mature the root system is.

Maybe you could give us a little more info on your grow, and we love pictures here on RIU..

Cheers, and happy growing.

I guess it depends on if you are using tap water, or ro water on what your ec should be. Just make sure your ph is not too low. Try to keep it at 5.8 when they are young like that.

i doubt 210s gonna burn um at his stage alota tap water is higher then that. Then again i just kinda assume he used a stealth 100 and is starting from 0

I had to take a step back and stop trying to be all scientific about growing and I'm glad I did. It got a lot easier.

With as many different strains and systems used to grow numbers are averages and not specific enough to cover all strains and systems. Many of our plants do better when our numbers are above and others do better when they are below.

Let the plant tell you want it needs and learn from that.

3squared- i couldnt of said it better myself.

I assumed he didnt pay big money for the truncheon being new as well. I payed 5 bucks for my ppm meter and it works great its called a "tds meter digital lcd test water quality filter purity pen stick 0-9999 ppm" Now thats some SEO right there. These "nute scales" work great along with blue lab ph pens. Take care of them and theyll last a long time. ppm is how much food is available, the ph is like the temperature and they like it medium rare all the time at 5.8 (just my opinon). Some strains are a little more hungry then others and none of them like to eat too much at once.

PPM stands for "parts per million", and is only an "estimate" that's measured by your device. As I stated above, your device actually measures "EC" and then multiplies that number with the scale it's programed for. Again, it's just an estimate of the total disolved solids.

Your ph went up because your plant ate some of its nutrients. thats normal. Use the cold air outside to shoot threw your reflector and into your living room or back outside. I love how h.i,d lights can be used instead of a base heater. Dont let the air touching your bulb touch your grow room

Yeh dumme, and all your points are good but just a little over his head at this point as im sure you can tell. Everyone who understands what your saying is glad you did including myself.
