PPM question

I know PPM is parts per million. But other than that I'm totally lost about it. The fox farm schedule gives a ppm range, and it increases as the schedule goes on. Does that mean that nutes build up and stay in the soil?

If that's the case I should be hitting the ppm range that fox farm has on it's schedule?

ppm goes up as the plants get older cause they can handle more nutes i grow hydro but what i do is if i have a new strain i will hit like 500ppm them slowly move up the ladder untill tips of leaves just start to show signs of burning then back it off 100 ppm

How do I test ppm? I test the soil after I give my babies their nutes right? or do I test the nute/water solution?

God this is embarassing haha. Everything else has been real easy to learn, but I just haven't wrapped my head around this (or gotten a clear explanation). Then again, I haven't grown yet, so one I see it in practice it will probably fall into place.

Just buy one of those ppm-meters to meassure. Make sure the numbers fit the reccommended for your plant's stage. Put the meter in the water solution to test it.
