Pots too large?

Hello all,

If one were to take a 3" pot and transplant it into a 4gal, you'd assume that the watering frequency would be dramatically reduced, yes? Of course over time as a plant grows larger, watering frequency would slowly increase. My question is, having smaller plant in a large pot will increase the amount of time the soil is at a higher saturation level, I assume. This increases chance for lack of oxygen, anerobic bacteria, or other nasty problems nobody needs (assuming again)?

When/If you transplant to such a large pot, do you worry about this? Anything you do differently, other than reduce the watering frequency? Maybe just have a soil that drains well is enough. I dunno...just throwing some stuff out there.

Cheers all, peace.

I personaly would (after transplant) use the same amount of water intill you see growth, and then add alittle more as time goes by.
Look for dry leaves or when the leaf has droped,it's time to water.

rule of thumb for potting is one gallon for every foot of growth...for instance 3' plant 3gal pot..etc...in my opinion...when u get a pot line the bottom of it with gravel about 2-4 inches on the bottom..(be sure if u get the gravel outside to clean it thouroughly and then bake it in the oven for alittle while to kill any bacteria and so on. the reason for this is to help with the drainage be sure to obivously have holes in the bottom of the buckets/pot). Now get yourself some good soil from the store or make your own....If youget it from a store, mix sand in with it about 1/3 part sand and 2/3 soil. some will say 50/50 again this is for drainage purposes. proper drainage is essential in growing.....beyond that my friend ..lights, soil, nuts, and last but certainly not least LOVE.......good luck and you dont need to worry to much after that..again good luck and research on this forum is great...its full of smart experienced growers that really can help you with any questions ayou may have..smoke on..peace....
