Potheads diy cab build

So today at work i couldnt help but think how i could get a cheap grow box. Then it hit me! My dads gf has a bunch of unused furniture in our garage. Being high all the time i completly forgot about it haha. So i went a found a enclosed computer desk. Its about 5ft tall 2-3ft wide and 1-2ft deep....PERFECT!

My plan is to gut the inside and save all the spare wood. This is going to be a cfl grow as its the easiest to control temps for my situation. Im thinking a diy cfl reflector with 4 55w 2700k cfl, 2 23w 5000k cfl and side lighting with various cfls. Im aiming around 400-500 watts if it can be kept cool.

For air movement im thinking around 120-140 cfm of computer fan with a diy carbon filter. i havent decided on what fan/fans im going to get but im looking for lower decible fans with good cfm. A adapter with 4 ports for fans will be used that plugs right into the wall. Passive intake is my goal with maybe some pvc to keep light from leaking.

Mylar will line the inside for extra reflectivity ans as much light use as possible. Two plants at a time i believe will work but this can be found out once i have the cab all set up. I will put a few pics up tomorrow of the cab, as well as trying to get pictures for everything done. Im not the handiest but i have determination and will get this to work exactly how i want with very minimal exterior changes

Now its time for a bowl of blue cheese and the Boston Briuns ( i could care less but the gf would get mad without it ) Happy growing and smoking RIU:eyesmoke:

ill throw in my .02 because no one else has. As far as the carbon filter, what i was planing on doing was having two 120mm comp fans (this is suposidly a good one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553002 but these are only 3DBAs louder, move just a little more air and are 4 for the same price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233104) and having it rigged up to where it goes DIY carbon filter --> a 4"sewer pvc pipe 3 way T splitter --> each way is a 4" 90' turn fitting --> 4" to 6" duct connector and then mount the 2 fans inside the 6" space and put some caulking and foam insulation around the base of the connector and the wall. This sounds complicated but i will post a pic in a sec :P

okay now what you should do, is get a hammer, or the more careful apporach a scredrivers and gut it.

a lock and hinge like one for a shed to lock(12), a 12+ gal tote(5-10$) for your res, a cement mixing tray(6) place on top and a water pump(20-40$ check CL).

400w HPS and batwing or marely dome reflector,(DIY high bay ballasy and reflector 40$) ballast outside, 4" inline fan(60$) and a can 9000(60$) or smaller filter. a small amt of ducting hell you could probably get away with solid duct ting. to make the hole all you need is a 4" hole saw(15$), very cheap at harbor and freight. a hand drill(free but you could get one for 20$ on CL), stepdads probably got one. and some ducting (metal) tape

some chain(5$)
some hooks(3$)

then from there all you need is plant media and nutes.:)

See i'm thinking you should go LED and hempy buckets for such a small cab. keep the middle shelf intact and split the cab into separate compartments. maybe veg with a few CFL's but definitely flower LED. whichever half is larger make that the flower cab

I dont think i want hps for one reason. This is about 5 feet from my bed and i want to keep it as silent as possible. Im afraid the exhaust would be to loud for the heat of the hps.

Led i would consider, but i also cant dish out 300+ on the light. Ive had no experience or knowledge with led, wich is also a problem when looking at different companies ( i dont know good from cheap )

Cfl is my best option. If someone can prove me wrong then go ahead haha all advise is good ( well sometimes )

Here is the box! The top section is 8" and will have wires, fan adapter, part of the exhaust, etc.

The only thing wrong with CFL's is they must be within inches of your buds. a reflector idea is good for like seedlings and stuff but a full flowering plant is gonna need movable CFL's that you can put very close to your buds. you'd be amazed at how small and airy your buds are unless you get the bulbs close.

I own 3 x 100w UFOs. they cover a 3 sq ft area at about 8 inches away from the canopy and at that distance the penetration isn't too bad. your setup would be great with 2. and then scrog is your best friend.

they grow so much faster under LED than my 150W CFL. and the power bill is so cheap with LED.

search B0051HOCJC on amazon. it's lasted me a year so i purchased two more. add a few 45w 5000k CFL's and i believe you're golden. easy and small setup. the CFL's will produce more heat than the LED.
