Lead sulfate! Bet that made for a “heavy” buzz.
Personally I believe that what you describe is that the one you mention observed correlation without causation. I’d need to see something peer-reviewed to decide my take on this.
I was semi surprised by his choice but, did find his theory as plausible.
He did some experimental use at 1/4 tsp per gallon.
Told him that Pbso4 was not very water soluble at any rate.
He wanted minor accumulation in his media.

I didn't ask how it went, as I decided that back in the 70's. There wasn't nearly the motorized activity in the "growing regions of source". As there was here in the US.

Used his experiment as an example of "sulfate" experimentation.

The individual you are referencing seems to have a history of "theories" that he performs half baked, subjective experiments on, then draws a definitive conclusion "riddled" with confirmation bias.

Not saying it isn't plausible, but likely not easily provable.
