If anyone here has Adobe Photoshop or a program to view details of a .JPG photo you will see the model number the device on which was used to take said picture you will also see a date stamp resolution and most of all a S/N number. Now for those of you who turned in your warranty slip or regestered your device online you are now traceable threw just posting a photo.

So be aware that there are software programs out there that can get rid of this info in you digital photos.

You dont want to post a pic of a huge grow with a device that is traceable back to you!

Also printers and digital camcorders also have a way of tracing. Printers print small yellow dots on the page that can only be seen under a microscope. There are programs also than bypass the hardware on that matter also.

So dont post pictures unless your sure you have not filled out your warranty card or registered. Just look for yourself all the info is there to find ya...jonny law just needs to ask a judge to ask Canon for S/N reg info...

Interesting.. so, what about photos taken in .raw format and converted to .jpg, on a Linux platform?

good info! thanks!

Presumably there are tools out there to strip the incriminating data from the jpg header: if not, it should be easy enough to write one.

There is software. Look at the link I provided there is software to remove metadata from .JPGs.

As far as RAW, TIFF, GIF, and others I dont know.

RAW and TIF formats embed data as well. I actually rely on that information for my photo sorting. The question is whether or not it's exported when the photos are exported/changed to jpg/jpeg (or any other format). Sounds like a good question for a Linux forum.

That is false because unless your camera is somehow plugged into a router this is imposable. They can have the serial number and everything but there is no remote connection so that is imposable.
