Posted image not visible to viewers

I've noticed users reporting posted images not showing linked with bb code. Happened on my thread too.
Has this anything to do with the album where the image is posted from being 'Private' ?

if you have an album and its set to private only mods, or friends can see it,
you will have to change your album settings to make it public for others to see

No no. What I mean is, I post the image located in my album via into a thread.
Does it matter then if my album is set to 'Private'? (Because I just linked the url for my picture...)

PS: I knew what 'Private' means, and the setting's effects are also written about somewhere next to it.
