if i used 6 hours of light and 18 hours of dark to flower, what will it do?

has anyone used something other than 12/12 and have any suggestions?

if i wanted to flower within 60 days could i stop giving them light when i want them to finish up? or would this fuck up the buds?

i've heard of people going down to 8 hours of light the last week of flowering to help the buds finish, but i have never tryed it.

Well i wouldnt think that adding more dark would be the way to go, try going the other way, probably wouldnt go past 13.5hrs of light

I read something somewhere (ya, we've all heard that before) that 10.5/10.5 cycles can get you an extra day out of every week of flower time. The math works out but I have no idea if the plants respond to this. The plant MIGHT believe that 8 days have passed in a 7 day time period. I wish I could remember where I read that. I have no idea if it works. That would save a week over an 8 week flowering period. Is it worth it? Prolly not.

negative... the shortness of light just keeps the flowering hormones activated so when they get the light, THE MORE THE BETTER as this is what they turn into energy to grow these delicious dank nuggets...

if you do, ending result would be in less of a yeild and potentionally you could confuse the plant into thinking it's dying and throw out all it's got in order to try to keep alive and throw it off...

Now I've taken it out of the light for the last 24 hrs before harvest and it's said that it's tricks that plant to think it's at it's end and it throws all it resin... now I haven't noticed the difference, but that the only clausable reason I could jusify for attempting this.

you can do it. and lose yield like crazy. just guessing but 25% less light prob 25% less bud at least

No sorry you're just going to have to give the plant the time it needs to finish flowering. More than 12 hrs light will make them veg, you need 12 hrs dark. You can speed up veg but I have never seen Flowering sped up with good results.

Biochemical processes occur at certain rates at certain temperatures. In cannabis' case, the fastest processes occur around 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Light doesn't have much to do with it at all except for UVB which helps with THC production.

okay a couple of things for those who want to give more lite during flower you can go to a longer day period as long as you still have a night over 12 your fine. It doew give certain strains a noticeable difference. I did a 16 on 16 off and i did see marked improvement in how she filled out during the end but it was hell keeping track of the flower time and I had to do it manually for 9 weeks. What a bitch dude. But the last 2 1/2 weeks of flower f'n colas just filled out beautifully like as big as my fist i was like wow but i rather use a timer. If you want your plants to finish faster you can go down to 10 on and 14 off. It does make the plants think they are ending there cycle and they push all of their goodies to the top but your yield will be less (i tried this also). Went with it the last 2 weeks before choppin em and they were hella sticky but same strain had about 4 o'z of wet bud when I harvested so you can only imagine what was left when i dried it. I say experiment dudes u'll find what you like. Take one extra clone and try something different with her. It's fun!

I had a friend just tell me he's been experimenting w dif light cycles in flower. He said his best results were from 6 hours light and 18 dark... No pics tho sry. I'm not convinced but he wouldn't lie and has been growing niiiiice buds for years. That smell thru the bag stuff. Anyone have comparison pics?

Plants build up certain hormones during the dark period that signal the plant to flower, those hormones are destroyed by light, which is why 16+ hrs of light will usually keep a plant in veg states. It generally takes 12hrs of dark for the plant to build up enough hormones to start the flowering cycle, and continued 12hr+ dark cycles to keep those levels up.

What needs to e figured out, and it is strain dependent, is what is the OPTIMAL dark/night cycles to build up enough hormones to keep flowering induced, while giving the maximum amount of light hours the plant can take advantage of. There is some anecdotal evidence that decreasing light hours towards the end of flowering can induce bud swell and resin production as the plant senses the end of it's life cycle.

some of these answers are ridiculous. The ONLY way to gain yield or shorten flowering would be to gradually decrease your light on cycle until you figure how many hours exactly each plant needs to initiate. Maturity of plants should also be considered.
