possible overwatering..what do you think ?

so these plants are 13 days old from rooted cuttings

growing in coco with an ec of 1.0 including a background ec of 0.7

using athena nutrients

25c 60 rh

300 ppfd checked with an apogee

ph 5.8

3-4 days between watering


I've had nothing but trouble with them upto now ..I feel like I might of been overwatering them I'm really not sure tho

they look very pale ..growth is slow ..very purple stems and leaf veins..leaves clawing down slightly yet still firm..crinkled leaves

tbh the Cutts didn't arrive with me looking there best ..nothing I do seems to help them pick up tho

does this look like possible overwatering ?

this is only my second run with coco ..my previous run went very smoothly so God knows what's going on

Coco is too dry. Not feeding often enough.

it looks extra dry now cuz I repotted yesterday and haven't watered them in yet ..I was worried I'd been overwatering them so I was gonna ease off a bit

would you say at this stage I should be watering maybe every other day ?

Curious if u are using coco coir or coco peat? They're completely different. Perlite mixed in would've help drainage and air.
Plant is under fed and needs calmag. Check light distance also. Seedling/early veg should be no closer then 24". Don't know what light u using but leaves shouldn't be drying out. Putting plants in oversize pots makes it a lil harder to water/feed correctly. Dont go by when u want to water, go by what the leaves tell u. Ive had plants that wanted medium dry before next watering and some that wanted to stay moist. Leaves will also let u know where it likes light intensity at. Praying, settled, drooping, etc is all a part of plant communication.

If its coco coir then u wanna feed it aleast every other day or daily. To do that u need to do less water but more often. If its coco peat and u watering it every 3 or so days then u wanna feed it every watering or do less water so u can do water feed water feed every 2 days.

Give it some enzymes, peroxide, or beneficials on the next watering if you think it's overwatered. 300 ppfd could be a little too much for clones that were just rooted. Keep an eye out for pests too.

I have some rooted clones in coco right now at 350ppfd. I water them once every 3 days in 1 gal pots. Once they're root bound they'll need once or twice a day.

hey yeah I've got an expensive quantum sensor to check my light levels ..I'm sat at 300ppfd right now

looking at my notes on my last run I was at about 400 ppfd around about this time with no issues

yeah it's 100 percent coco

I think looking at it I've definitely underfed and under watered

yeah 100 percent coco coir

that is brilliant advice cheers for that ..at this point then do you think I'd be safe to start watering/feeding every other day and maybe bump my ec up to 1.2 including my tap water ec of 0.7 and go from there ?

thanks for that yeah I might add some microbes to my next feed ..might even drop back on my light intensity a touch until they sort themselves out a bit

these had rooted out the smaller pots pretty well ..circling roots at the bottom and all

looking at it I'm sure I have just been underwatering and under feeding ..I've grown in soil for years so getting my head around watering small plants in coco is definitely a bit of a learning curve

0.8-1Ec daily or 2x/day to 10-20% runoff. You want that coco to stay saturated.
There is some bunk info in the above 2 people's posts.
NEVER use plain tap water in coco. Microbes won't do much as there's no organics to break down.
If you treat it like soil you lose all the benefits of coco.
Coco is a hydro medium. Forget everything you know about soil.

Not true. So many wrong statements. Lol
I know soil and coco. I even mix mine now for the benefits of both. Glad what works for u is going well but different environments and plants call for adjustments. The plants tell u what it wants.

People that say saturate coco also believe u cant overwater in coco. I dont do run off. Weaker plants can't handle same light as healthier ones. U add microbes to coco with ewc/tea or recharge and give it black strap molasses. I can ph water/nutes to 6.5 in coco. Coco is inert medium so u can treat it as u wish long as u understand it.

And tap water is great for coco depending where u live. U will need less calmag. Mic drop. Lol

Once you mix it with soil, it's not a coco grow. Adding ewc makes it even less so. You don't know what you don't know.

You don't need calmag, enzymes, beneficials, or fairy dust. You need to treat coco like coco and not like soil. You're watering every 3-4 days letting the coco dry out. That's the problem.

perfect ill run with that then ..my last coco run went smooth as fuk only thing I did different was I started out in small pots with soil then transplanted into coco ..think that's where I've gone wrong this time ..I'd been treating the young plants like I was still growing in soil and holding off on my water and feed ..I'll post some pics in a few days and let you know how it goes
