Not sure, but it is important to know that people like you come off as complete loons that will never be satisfied to the rest of Americans. Hence the incessant laughter you may hear.

Just sayin'

The checks will go out regardless of what happens (They actually can not stop them this late). This is typical fear mongering.

The world will not end, but he will not admit that.

No debt increase without spending cuts. Thats the line in the sand. What we need is a bunch of federal workers on the unemployment line.

STOP SPENDING MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE.

It is a Constitutional Requirement that Congress pay any and all debts without question. I know, you only like that God Damn piece of paper when it suits you. Sorry, you don't get to cut and paste out of it. Go read the 14th until you understand it.

And this helps how?
Every company has laid off people and frozen wages to stay competative and profitable. Not only are the ranks of federal workers growing faster than any other sector but they also got 8% raises last year.

What do you whnat to cut from the federal budget? Cut the fat, trim the dead wood, make federal gevernment smaller thus spending less money.

Honestly, I'm surprised this hasn't been talked about much. So how does this work then? Since Obama is in the executive branch he can just bypass congress and tell Geithner to just keep borrowing as needed to pay debts and obligations already accrued? ofc if he did so, it'd be challenged and eventually make it to the supreme court - but would they stop government borrowing until at least a first ruling by a lower court? Are judges likely to stop the borrowing? Any cases that have set precedent here?

Ok but this is the one and only time. From now on, you are going to have to educate yourself. Deal?

Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.
Section 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Pretty neat huh?

How does laying off workers help the economy though? Austerity is contractionary, we're in the middle of a recession... Government is not supposed to make cuts based off of what's mostly a recession induced increase in "size of government" (in GDP). What you propose would make things worse... But you dont care do you, with your typical rightie hatred for government workers?

In a nut shell yes. Congress has the responsibility to pay our debts. Obama took an oath to uphold the Constitution and that includes Paying our debts. The President is responsible for upholding the Constitution even if it is Congress that is the one that is violating it.

Sorry but the 14th admandment slight of hand will not work.

Just because a debt is reconized as vaild does not mean it has to be paid, of gives the prisident the authority to raise the debt limit with out the approval of congress.

If you think we are going to solve this (long term) before the election, well it's just not going to happen, this is going to be the albatross around Obamas neck that takes him down.

He is so far over his head and out calssed that I would be suprised if he does not resigh befor next november.

I keep hearing Take Obama Down.

I thought HCR was going to do that? Nope.

I thought the oil spill was his Katrina? Nope.

And yet he leads in every poll against every candidate.

Something tells me that your frustration is insatiable.

See you 2012!

Besides that, by painting himself as the big kid in a room full of bickering douchbags (congress) he is doing a good job politically of deflecting blame for any breakdowns in debt reduction talks while setting himself up to declare victory when a large austerity package passes.

My only hope is that he spends that political capital arguing for infrastructure investment to get those 1+ mil construction workers back to work... Such a waste of human capital...

the place you live in doesn't have potholes in the roads? There isn't some bridge project the state couldn't afford but really needs? There is nothing that needs repairs at all? Didn't our own military tell us our intrastructure is garbage? Why dont we listen to them and fix the problem? We're falling behind because people like you stop the government from making necessary investments; So much for USA #1 - the righties would rather we have dirt roads.
