pollenating with a pencil ..and some pistil resin :)

Did use a brush but I'm oddly finding this method works best for me (in stopping any accidental pollination). Thought I'd post this random info -

Take one Staedtler HB pencil (red tip). ok, another pencil manufacturer if you must ;-)

Touch the red tipped end of the pencil on the pistils of a flower site (so a little resin is imparted onto the pencil end).

Transfer a small bit of pollen (from a piece of paper) onto the pencil end. The resin will help hold the pollen in place (stopping any accidental pollination, by pollen dislodging while working on bud sites).

Touch/lightly rub the flower site pistils you wish to pollenate with the pencil end.
Done.

Have you tried a qtip? If only doing 1 branch for say 50 seeds I just use qtip and place a baggie over branch for a day or so afterwards.

to be honest, a pencil was at hand. It was more 'necessity is the mother of invention' :)
I just liked the way the addition of pistil resin on the pencil seemed to help stop accidental pollination (without covering the branch afterwards - all I do is keep the fans off for a time). As you mention, I'm only pollinating a few bud sites lower down the plant.
Thanks for the info.
