Pollen Chucking

Hello everyone, I want to start my quest in making a strain that I can call my own. I been searching all over but still have a couple questions. The ledgend himself Neville said that 2 indica's don't cross well, but sativa x indica works good. I have some crosses I want to try. Some kind of skunk or Blueberry will be involved. Cross it with MNS Afghan/Haze. Then find an early finishing sativa like Early Pearl or Ace Seeds Bangi Haze to back cross with that. This will take acouple years to do, but I have nutt'n better to do.:-P
I want to know why some seed banks say choose this strain for a male. The only one that come to mind right away was Black Widow Shanti said look for a male for breeding. Why are some strains better for a father than a mother? Do they pass on certain genetics being the father over the mother? After this one is answered I'm sure another one will pop up and if any one has a question about PollenChucking Post here if you want.:bigjoint:

i've just done a little pollen chucking, made some seeds, but haven't grown any yet
many of the big breeders so seem to have some choice males, so male choice seems to be a big deal
but pollen chucking is a bit less effort? just go with your gut instincts, though i did do a bit of reading before i tossed any pollen

After weeks of thinking of strains worth crossing I came up with a starting point. If I force flower the seeds I want next summer. I should have a good start on a couple crosses to try for the year after. Don't know the male that's going to be used yet. Here is what I have so far.

BLUEBERRY X AFGHAN/HAZE (add some fruit to the A/H) Then backcross them. After that EARLY QUEEN(male) x BBxAFGAHAN/HAZE.

Then see what I get from there. The goal is a early tastey outdoor strain and of course good with mould. Thats why I went with the B.B. and A/H. The ones I grew where great against mold.

I just pollinated a branch of all my plants i had a real nice healthy Sleestack Skunk male i got a bunch of pollen off of, and i hit a Sleestack Skunk, La Women, and Sour Cream after i harvest i bought some TGA Apollo13 BX and Third Dimension to cross

that might work out, i did read that BB can be pretty nice part of a cross
BB is supposed to be a bit unstable(at least DJ's original), but loses some of that being crossed

Thanx GROWONE I couldn't find a skunk to cross then i figured that the BB would have less smell. Might have the BB as the male. What do you look for in a male? Never grew one out. Agility - Overall looks - Smell - Good against fungus(powdery mildew) and all the other thing that goes with mother nature(fungus gnats, mites, white flys, ect...)
What do you really look for in a male or is that found out after you use the pollen and test?

I was thinking bout doing that. How is that done? I have the general idea. Do you use a plastic bag with pollen over the desired branch? The plastic don't suffercate the plant or over heats with out any curculation? Sorry bout the basic questions.

at this point, my expertise is quite limited
good branching characteristics seems to be mentioned quite a bit, this is so you don't get a plant that can't support the weight of its buds
another is for some trics appearing on male parts, guess that makes some sense
i did read a good breeder's thoughts of some of this
that is knowing which traits are male dominant is very complex, i suspect some of this info is closely guarded
there is one item though that is just too strange not too mention
this came from DJ himself, and concerns a certain kind of special male
this is a male that shows hermie traits, i.e. female pistils
not really rare , seen that myself
but among these hermie males, there is supposed to be rare trait that the female pistils will be fertile, that is unusual
supposedly, these males are very desirable, their pollen will create strains that have a higher percentage of females AND be more stable, less hermie tendency
i don't claim to understand this, just an article i read

Good info Got the note pad out taking notes and writting out a couple possibilities. I want to throw CRITICAL MASS in the mix for yeild alone?

can't provide much more info, i'm just a beginner myself to breeding
i freeze dry pollen, and use the paintbrush method to get a small number of seeds
but a high yielding strain ought to have some high yielding offspring, depending on the other parent's traits

Making your own strain is easy. If you have a structurally good looking male and cross it with a female (preferably a high quality clone), then the outcome should display some characteristics of both. I know it's more involved than that, but when you grow out 20-30 resulting seeds and select the best looking females for clone, you can then flower your best and keep the clones that came from the female that gave you the best results in the end. I don't know if you're trying to stabilize a strain in seed-form, but making your own 'clone only' strain only takes about 6-8 months. I should have pics of my own strain here in about 50 days.

The only thing with CM is the MOLD factor MNS said it in their ad. That is one of the top three things I'm looking for. Early finnish outdoors, unique taste, good yeild, potency is to be said without being told.
I been hearing alot and also agree that the length of the buzz don't last long. All the strains that I have in mind are comming from DJ SHORT and MR NICE. Quality. So they should carry that quality trait on RIGHT?
The long length of stone or buzz is mostly the sativa in the genes (PLEASE CORRECT IF WRONG). That means a good sativa should be in the mix. Gee this is going to take longer then I think. Just to figure what is going to be used and choices of crossings involded. I still want BLUEBERRY AFGHAN/HAZE like the taste and effects from them both. After a good cross is made from them I want to try to cut their flowering time down. Should I get a short flowering sativa like EARLY PEARL that might add too much of her sweet taste. Or DURBAN POISON haven't tried it yet.
Sorry bout the long post just got off work and smoke my first one.

Looking to get my creative juices flowing. Something that makes you say "wow" or "holy shit that good". OOOHHH yeah something that I made. My set up is pretty spooky at this moment in time, but I am looking for someting in side. Everything I do will be out. Will force flower the ones I am interested in and go from there. It's going to be a lot tougher that way. When all I need is a small space. Allready have a 400 watt MH to play with.

I just planted 1 3rd demension seed which poped out of the dirt yesterday. Just one plant while my outdoor few girls flower. I'm hoping for a male, if its male then i'll save the pollen then do a few branches during my january persona. and if its female, then i'll just smoke it as i've always wanted to try this one.

Thank you all for the help. I was wondering if I use an autoflowering strain in my cross to cut flowering time down. Will the off spring of this cross make an autoflowering or only time will tell.
Thanx to this quote: females primarily contribute the type of flavor and aroma and the males contribute the amount of flavor and odor
I going with the AFGHAN/HAZE as a female and the BLUEBERRY as the male. I want to keep the A/H taste but add a little BB sweetness to it.
Good luck with your creations. Hope it is the next generation of marijuana.

i have been watching this thread(another site) of someone who did just this, interesting result
he got some auto flowering offspring, and some others(less) that had shorter flowering times
these were outdoor grows

Thanx growone
Do you know what auto they used. Thinking about one with NL in it. That is if I can find a good nl auto.
That would be nice to cut down the flowering time.
