Two arrests have been made in connection with the kidnapping and beating of a Charleston man as the perpetrators demanded to know the whereabouts of marijuana plants.

Kanawha County deputies responded to a Thursday night call at the Little General Store in Sissonville where Charles Brett Cook, 25, told them he managed to flee his abductors when they stopped for gas. He told police he was traveling W.Va. 21 in Sissonville when a pickup truck began tailgating. He pulled over and the truck pulled in front of him. Both drivers exited their vehicles and Cook was beaten with a baseball bat.

On Friday, police arrested Edmond Jonathan Payne, 24, of Route 5 Box 329A, Charleston, and Savannah Marie Lattea, 20, of 512 Falcon Drive, Charleston. Both are charged with malicious wounding.
