Minimal lights?! You will get no yield so what's the point. You can flip to 12-12 when you want. More veg time, training, etc can help yield. Also depends on your grow space, exactly what you mean by minimal, and other things.
Generally, forget Bout when to sex. The question is when you want to start flower based on your grow scenario and expectations. Once you do, wait till they show sex.

My babies are 6 nodes nice and green and I have a couple cfl bulbs on them 2700k

Sounds like you need to do a LOT more studying before you try growing.
You say 2700k, but don't tell if you're going 12/12 from seed or not.
If you're vegging, you're already wrong.
6 nodes doesn't mean anything really, depending what else you're doing.
How old are they, how long since flip if you have already, etc.
Sorry man, but it's hard to give a haircut over the phone.
Think of it this way......
You can grow a plant 12/12 from seed, but it will not show sex until it is 'mature'.
On the other hand, I have vegged plants for two months and kept them from showing sex.

Post some pics. It's really hard to offer much help without info...
If you are in veg you want 6500k. You didn't state the wattage so "a couple" doesn't mean much. If these are standard store (24-32w or whatever), you will need alot more to yield anything.
If the plant is tall right now, with a couple inches between nodes, it means she is stretching for light.
How old is the plant? What is your grow space?

Trying to do a kinda stealthy grow how high do they need to be / nodes before I think of doing anything ?

First off your lighting is wayyy too weak. I read somewhere that there should be a minimum of 50-100 watts PER PLANT. but then again its really the Lumens that matter.
Your question is how high do the nodes have to be before you change them over to flowering cycle? Im sorry but your wording is a little confusing.

First off, read up. You need to learn the basics.
To make the plants start budding, you swicth the light to 12 hrs on, 12 hrs off. You could do that now, or wait. I would recommend researching topping and LST. Do them before swicthing lights.
But you need more light. Make sure it is as close the plants as possible.
I am guessing you have given no thought to odor control. Do!

hey man, you dont make sex with the plants haha. u grow them , and once theyre old enough they will show you what sex they are.
and if theyre male you need to remove them as only the females produce the flower that im assuming is what your going for.
as for as "how high you nodes should be? lol thats a preference for you man, when the plant is about 80% as tall as you can accomadate in your grow space.
thats when you should change your light to 12/12 as it will still do a little more growing after the switch, prolly not much more growing after switch with the amount of light you currently have tho, id get more lighting.
