Testing runoff only gives a vague idea of what your soil is like, and varies so much because of soil buffers and other buffers added to nutrients. It's pretty inaccurate.

Just stick the probe into the soil, about root ball level, and take a reading. That'll tell you what you need to know.

b ut i am putting in 6.4 water and feed but getting 5.4 runoff, is this ok, i just started checking so maybe ot will get better in time? what would be ok runoff?

What I'm saying is DON'T TEST YOUR RUNOFF.

Directly test the soil. That will tell you what your soil pH is, and that will tell you what's happening with your runoff. Odds are your soil is getting too acidic if you're watering with 6.4 and getting 5.4 runoff. Check your soil. Failure to check your soil can and likely will result in you losing your crop.

They make really cheap soil ph testers, you can find them at walmart in the garden section. They are green with two prongs on them. Having one would provide a much more accurate means to checking your ph rather than testing the runoff.
