Play any instruments?

I'm not sure if there's already a thread on this but..
Does anyone play anything? It doesn't even have to be tangible, if you make some wubstep in fruity loops then say so its still making music! Bang on pots and pans with spoons? Say so! There's a group called stomp that comes around here about every year and plays in our arena and they bang on trash cans, brooms and other random things but it's still music and sounds great! What was your best musical experience? You playing or otherwise

I'll start off, I was in multiple bands including the school concert and marching bands so I play more than one. Started out playing piano, then I started with trombone in elementary school. From there I learned guitar, bass, and ukelele in my spare time all kind of the same thing with small differences. I played saxophone for a short while, along with baritone and trumpet and tuba. I attempted violin and would love to pick it up for good, same with the accordion. My best musical experience was being in a local jazz band of about ten people. I played mostly trombone with them but played guitar and bass on occasion, I loved the bits where we would just improvise entire songs and it came out great, the crowds always loved it too :D

Anyone else? Play anything different? I plan on buying a zen tambour, waiting list for one is currently about 53 weeks after you pay, and it would be AWESOME if I could buy a hang but I don't have the money and not sure if I would be selected :bigjoint:

edit: does anyone have any tips on playing guitar and singing at the same time? I can play great, can sing well, but once I put the two together I strum with my singing instead of the actual pattern or beat and it all goes down the can lol

I play the bass a little bit, I stopped for a few years due to life biting me in the ass. I had to buy a new bass since I sold the old one a few years ago, looking for an amp now.

The bass needs work but I got it for a steal. Spector Legend 4, got it for $112 at a pawn shop. It goes for $700-$900 new for those of you who don't know.

I also have a ukulele but I can't play it for shit lol.

I played alto sax for 5 yrs in jr and sr high school and I was: in jazz band, regular band, marching band & competitions ....I stopped playing it b-cuz the new school I went to didn't do shit but sit in class and practice.....meanwhile, I lived in New Orleans and I always thought about wanting to march in a Mardi Gras Parade....it never happened so I fucking just totally quit

When I was in my early 20's I met lots of people who played instruments and I attempted the guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, synthesizer, 4 track recording equipment, etc. I played music with them for 5+ yrs!! I've even made my own songs with liner notes and song titles, etc! I gave them 2 friends and family....I even took a community college class called "digital music production" and I learned modern recording techniques. I've even taken a continuing education class where I got to visit a working recording studio!

Right now, I don't play an instrument, I sing to my music! I'm getting better every yr!

Music is my life! My lively hood! My love! My passion! My everything sometimes! When I feel down, A good song to sing along to will elevate my mind to a better place!

Thanks 4 asking!

:)

I totally agree prisoner, music is my life too. I loved competing in marching band but I ended up leaving around 10th grade because our original award winning director decided it was too stressful and moved to teaching chorus, we then had a good 3 different directors and the cost was our music program went down the toilet. Today it seems like we're getting kids back into the band but for a good two years the program pretty much died. I am so glad my school actually did/does things with the music classes, I've been to concerts and competitions at other schools where the kids say the same as you did and it's really sad.

Looking to get some new strings for my uke, it still has the originals made of cheap plastic or something I'm not really sure what it is, but it is NOT proper strings at all lol. I can reproduce the same sound as other people with top quality strings and ukes (this is some 20-30 dollar one I bought a long time ago to see if I liked it) but when I look at these plastic cords I can see the wear and it looks like they might break just from non abusive playing! Not to mention needing to re-tune it every half our of playing or so. It's only the slightest change in pitch but I've gotten to be really anal about tuning so every half hour with these strings I need to pull out the tuner and get them dead on again.

I've marched in the local parades with the marching band but nothing as cool as a Mardi Gras one or something similar. BW, I think the uke is a tiny bit harder than bass, and I'm only saying that because its harder for me to get my fingers in the smaller fret board. Whenever I played a normal guitar I would do everything in my power to avoid the tiny little frets at the end but with this thing its impossible! I think it's because it's an alto so it's the smallest you can get. I wonder if I can trade it in at a local music place for like, 15 bucks and put that towards a better quality..slightly larger..one. I am no where near this good but I'm striving to eventually be able to play the blues on it like this

It's not his best song or really all that blues, but I think the name fits us :bigjoint: Definitely check out his other stuff

Playing the guitar and singing at the same time is VERY tricky! I would recommend that U take a look at how Kurt Cobain played his guitar and sang at the same time + look at Jimi Hendrix and how he played the guitar like a master AND sang at the same time....also look at Stevie Ray Vaughan, too.

It takes some serious co-ordination and yrs of practice! Keep trying!

This is the first real song I ever learned how to play on bass.
